They looked dated before they came out!

Also, anyone knows that side load garage is superior to front load. Who wants to see the garage as most of the facade? Ridiculous. Of course, most lots around here are not big enough to accommodate a side load garage, so of course people are going to say they "prefer" what is more within their reach.

Not exactly a trend when it's been the most popular color for decades.

Totally disagree, it's definitely a 2000's thing, in the nineties, it was cherry cabinets with dark granite. Before that, oak cabinets.

Nope. It's been the most popular color year in and year out. You're right about the cherry with dark granite though. That was totally a fad.

You must have a new white kitchen.

No, but I wish I did. We have the 90s light maple. My friend who is a kitchen designer and has been for years swear that white is the only timeless choice and I believe it now. When you research preferences over time, that seems to be true. If we ever renovate, we'll do white next time.

Sorry 2/3 of America wants a front load and even a three car front load on houses starting at 1200 sf

For more than 20 years, land planners and architects have argued for side-loading garages in new home communities so that large garage doors will not dominate the streetscape. Paul Foresman of Design Basics said that his firm has found through focus group research that two-thirds of homeowners prefer the front-loading garage because they can see where they are driving and thus avoid errant toys and sports equipment, often casualties of the tight 90-degree turns required of the side loaders.

Homeowners also complained of damaging their cars — sheering off side mirrors and scraping doors and fenders — as they maneuvered their vehicles into the side-loading entry. Foresman also noted that a three-car garage is desirable for his clients, even when the house has only 1,200 or 1,300 square feet of living area.

Google tiny house movement.

PP, we have white, I would never do it again. Shows dirt easily, and needs color retouched. I would love to have plain wood instead.

Ugh sorry for the triple post!

Sorry hun it's not a trend

I don't mind larger houses if you need them for whatever reason, but I do not like 2-story foyers or 2-story great rooms. It just feels like too much wasted space to me. But I don't think they will go out of style or seem dated since having as grand a foyer or vestibule as possible was an aspiration since early times.

But no one NEEDS a house that large. They just don't!

No I agree. But try finding a small home with a nice kitchen and storage. It's hard! I don't even want a separate living room/family room, but they seem standard now.

Wow someone should tell my mom that she shouldn't have painted her cabinets white in 1994!

I love the off-white, cream colored cabinets. It makes the whole space feel warm and bright.
