That's a 22 minute walk!

It's just a little over 1 mile. Is that impossible for a walk?

Nothing is impossible to walk if the person wants to do that. But data show that people consider walking distance to a regular commute to be 10 minutes or under. This journal article says walking distance is often considered to be less than 1/4 mile. You are not going to find those distances to metro in the Whitman district.

People need to adjust their ideas about walking distances. 1/4 mile is a 5-minute walk.

Sure, you just get right on promoting that adjustment and let us know how it goes. But until then, be realistic about what people consider walking distance.

I know people who will get in the car to drive to the other end of the block. But I don't use them as my standard.

So do I, which is why I posted the journal article from NIH which made an objective review of the issue and defined walking distance as 0.25. If you have a source that says that 22 minutes for a regular commute is considered walking distance, please post it.

There's a metro near Whitman? I didn't know they even had a metro in Gaithersburg.

This thread is from 2014. Someone just randomly answered a 5 year old question, and now everyone is giving advice to someone that probably bought years ago. I wish threads would auto-lock after a couple years with no activity!
