This video is amazing! I can't wait for my kid to start K there this fall (and I signed the petition too...)

Thank you for signing! We're in the home stretch, so anything you all can do to get the word out would be fantastic. I believe Tues is the deadline.

Eaton has one of the smallest school yards in the city, so it is difficult to erect trailers (or even expand the building) without taking the modest playground.

In any event, there is no reason why a school like Eaton would ever need to install trailer classrooms when its enrollment is 50% or more from out of boundaries. OOB enrollment is intended to fill open student slots. As enrollment reaches capacity, OOB admissions should be dialed back. It is ridiculous that a school would have to expand through trailers to serve a large OOB enrollment, when other schools are utilized well below their capacity.

I'm wondering why Murch has a significant number of OOB students, when the school is bursting/over capacity. Is it still accepting OOB students, or are the OOB students those who entered several years ago before it totally outgrew its physical plant?

They should redraw the boundaries in NW, so there is more balance among the over and under enrolled schools.

Most of our OOB students are in the upper grades - we added a third pre-K the year my third grader was in pre-K and there are quite a few there. And before Deal became hot we used to lose a lot of kids in third grade to privates. Not anymore! Less and less OOB every year - hardly any in pre-K and K.

Yup--pretty much exclusively little sibs of older OOB kids.

If you're basing this on 66% in bounds figure on the DCPS profiles page, I am 100% sure this is a typo. I think last year it was something like 86% in bounds, and I'll bet that number has only gone up this year.

Are there other Murch IBs on the waiting list? How long is the list this year? We are keeping our fingers crossed and hope to get in.
Anonymous
Yes, we are in the low teens ( pre-k wait list).

There are OOB kids in pre-K this year. So if you are IB and waitlisted, stay in touch with the school and be willing to accept a spot even if it becomes available late - you have a good chance of getting in.
