| Never fresh. Frozen I buy chopped spinach, corn, and sweet potato fries, peas. |
I'm the PP. Yes, I have one of those too, but to me it's not just about time...using those corers wastes so much of the fruit. IMO. Anyway, to each his own...I'll continue to buy pineapple precut except when whole pineapples are on supersale. |
Carrot skin and innards are exactly the same. They don't have a true skin. If a vegetable is the same color throughout, the nutrition is the same. Potatoes have real skin and real differences in nutritional content between peel and flesh. |

I buy baby carrots a pond sugar snap peas for my son's lunch. He eats them so it is worth it.
I will buy the precut mango at trader joes, because I waste half the mango cutting it, so I do not feel like I am any worse off buying it precut Everything else I buy whole. |
They waste even more because there is NO skin left on the pre-sliced stuff, where as the corer often shaves off so little that some skin is still left. My complaint is that is cuts it too close. Maybe we have different corer products. I'm not sure a full priced pineapple would be any more expensive than something pre-cut. I'm a very budget conscious shopper and just purchased a pineapple for $3. I don't think $3 would pick me up ANY pre-cut pineapple, at least not the fruit I've seen. To each his own! I'm glad people like you keep the cost of produce down for the rest of us. Without your purchases, there is no way I could get my pineapple for $3, as most grocers lose money on the fresh produce and make the losses up on the profit margins of the pre-prepared stuff. |

I buy then all the time.
Prepping dinner is easily my most rushed time of day -- I get home between 6:15-6:30, and I need to start my daughter's bedtime routine no later than 8. That's 90 minutes to cook dinner, eat dinner, and try to get in some family time or homework time. If I can save 5-10 minutes here or there, I'll happily pay a premium to do so. |
| Sorry, *them* |
| Only when I am throwing a party |
| The frozen veggies we keep are already cut up, does that count? If you mean those little snack bags of sliced up apple - then never. I'm not opposed to eating them and if it meant eating out less, I'd consider that worth the cost (semi-prepared foods at home is still cheaper than take out) but in my experience, the pre-cut fruits and veggies loose a lot of flavor and it's just not very enjoyable to eat. |

I buy the pre cut veggies from whole foods all the time. I like the stir fry mix, and the steam in the bag fresh green beans and Brussels sprouts. I have a crazy toddler who doesn't nap, so I gladly pay more to not have to cut up the cauliflower while he is scaling the counter. I haven't noticed any difference at all in taste between pre cut and regular, but I cook it the same day I buy it or maybe the next day at the latest.
I dream about the day when I have it together enough to menu plan, go to the grocery store once a week, and chop everything myself. Haven't gotten there yet. |
That 45 seconds I would save by choosing precut over whole (170 seconds in the case of a whole pineapple)? Not a whole lot, no. And, if I'm so well-compensated that that missing 45 seconds x 3 whole fruits/ vegetables per day DOES represent significant loss of cash flow ... you and I both know that I have one of those overtaxed nannies who serves as the parent-house manager, anyway. Chopping and grocery shopping are her domain, not mine. |

I buy precut vegetables all the time. I find I waste less food because I actually use the vegetables more often for snacks or for adding to school lunches, and it is easier to quickly throw a side salad together with bagged lettuce and pre cut vegetables. We also do a lot of coleslaw with pre shredded cabbage/broccoli.
I buy a precut fruit platter every Friday for the weekend. I don't like precut fruit as much as the veggies -- don't feel it holds up as well. Would never buy precut apples. |
Every once in a while if it's a big pineapple I just cut the extra flesh of the peel. But normally, doesn't waste any more fruit than the normal cutting and peeling process. I cut it in a bowl so I catch all the juice. |
