How often to you buy pre-cut fruit and veggies from the grocery store produce department?

Seems a little alarmist to me?

What does? Not buying pre-cut fruit at supermarkets that don't have strict practices? If that's alarmist, why do you care about strict practices to begin with?

LOL! First logical post I've ever read here!

the only pre-cut stuff I buy is pineapple...it's too much of a pain to do it myself and I always feel like I waste half of the fruit. I think pineapple might be a pretty good deal, especially if you buy the fresh precut stuff from Costco or WholeFoods when it's on sale, which is all the time.

Never for anything that is eaten raw - fruits, precut and washed vegetables with dip. Rarely for precut veggies for cooking.

When I go to Trader Joes, i will buy the broccoli and cauliflower that is pre cut. I will also buy the pineapple spears and mango. I am pregnant and exhausted and just happy to be cooking vegetables at all right now.

Your time isn't worth money?

What? Do you not peel your carrots before you eat them anyway?

Of course not. The skin is packed with vitamins.

If I didn't get to the store in time to let fruit ripen for company.

I don't buy frozen or pre-cut fruits or veggies EXCEPT the fresh boxed Organic Salad Mix, Spinach, Arugula, and baby Kale.

The fresh, but pre-cut veggies/fruits look to me to taste awful.

I have a pineapple corer and cutter. Literally takes me 30 seconds to prepare pineapple.

We sometimes buy the pre-cut stir fry mixes from WF or TJs. Makes stir fry a fast and easy meal. Totally worth it.

You waste most of it and the juice

Do you eat the core and the skin?

We don't eat those parts.

I'm not sure about losing the juice. I never noticed that.

If you cut the pineapple on a board or plate set in a cookie sheet, you can catch the juice. It makes great syrup (cooked w/sugar) or can be used in fruit salad.

I buy precut mango because my kids love mango but I'm allergic to the sap and the skin (get a terrible rash wherever it touches my skin). I'll also buy precut onions or mirepoix at Trader Joe's if I'm using it that night for dinner and I'm short on time or DH is traveling. Otherwise, I don't buy too much precut stuff for reasons others have cited (freshness, cleanliness, etc). It's nice to have the option to buy pre-washed and pre-cut stuff, though. I'm sure I'll use more of it when baby #3 arrives in a couple of months. I like the idea of the big deli tray of fresh veggies, PP! I'll definintely do that when the baby is born to keep the younger ones eating some veggies every afternoon while I make dinner.
