We love AU. It's suprisingly convienent to both DC and Bethesda, and amazingly even VA (there's a few good routes). It's a neighborhood that lacks some of that 'smack' tht others do - you don't need to be a senators aide to be invited to someone's house - and incomes here are modest (most people are under $400k, so you won't feel like the poor kid on the block).

Found this doing a search -- what are the good routes to VA from AU Park please?

Chain Bridge or MacArthur/Clara Barton to the Beltway.

Or try massachusets to Clara Barton to 495. Works great. 10 minutes to 495, sometimes less. Then maybe 10 more to Tysons area.

We used to live in AU park until a couple of years ago. Beautiful area to live, nice, stylish housing stock, both green and kids friendly, and relatively close to downtown (we lived close to turtle park, with no traffic it was 15 minutes to work. Normal 20-25).

We moved away because, as the family grew, we needed more than 3 bedrooms AND wanted to retain a yard. In AU park this is hard to find, even more so at affordable prices. We're now in Barnaby Woods and equally happy (even though the commute has become 5 minutes longer).
