Execpt the daughter IS being rational. She researched it on her own. To me, that's way more rational/preferable than a kid who blindly goes along with whatever mommy says..

You can't force her

Yes I can actually, until she's 18 I can.

You need to dial it back OP. Were you hoping one of us would tell you, "Yeah, go ahead and strap her down!" Or cut off her cell phone until she does it!" If you hope to have any kind of relationship with her, stand down on this one. My hunch is that you might be controlling and shrill in other ways, and your daughter is exerting her control whenever and however she can. Again, stand down. This isn't the parent you want to be.

Oh puh-leeze. If she were that kind of mom, the kid would already have been marched to the doctor. Because there has never, ever been a know-it-all, surly teen before poised to do something stupid in the history of history?

This makes no sense. Are you in agreement with the poster above you? Please explain.

I'm disagreeing with the immediate PP. I love how when someone is trying to get their kid to do something rational and sensible, they're immediately pilloried as control freaks.

what?

for refusing a shot?????????????????

OMG - Based on all the cuckoo parents on these boards, I think my daughter will end up being ABNORMAL b/c she's so normal!

Yep. There is a right and wrong answer to this. To me, it is similar to wearing a seatbelt. If she doesn't want to play by my rules, then she loses the extras I provide. I don't mess around with matters of health and safety.

A. wearing a seat belt is required by law
B. OP made it clear that daughter makes enough money to provide for her own extras

Has any of the "research" she has done included speaking with actual medical professionals? Has she discussed this with her doctor? Or is she reading random internet crap from dubious sources? I'd make her an appointment with her doctor and ask the doctor to discuss this with her.

I don't know what kind of "research" the daughter did, but the mere fact that you Googled something doesn't mean you researched it.

She can talk to my friend. He arrogantly refused to get the shot and has now been flat on his back for almost two weeks. It's a bad flu this year.

I hope my daughter grows up to be like OP's daughter. We need to clone the daughter.

Where do you work?

Like I would identify that. It's not mandatory everywhere.
I currently do not work face to face with patients but I did for YEARS.

Thank god you don't work with patients. Nurses typically aren't very good with health things. A large percentage are overweight and smoke, so your attitude doesn't really surprise me.

People who make sweeping generalizations are usually not that bright - or they're too lazy to do the research.

To the PP who claims nurses are fat smokers . . . get laid (if anyone will have you, that is).

There is no way you can look at the data and conclude that you shouldn't get a vaccine. It is not rational and I would be very upset if my child came to that conclusion, as it would show that he or she was not capable of making good decisions.

Do people die from the flu? Yes, but they are typically in their 80s.

Let it go.

actually most that die are young adults, and very young children. Don't let it go Who is the boss here?

Compare the rates of doctors v. nurses. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8151902. It is kind of astounding.

Also, http://abcnews.go.com/Health/study-finds-55-percent-nurses-overweight-obese/t/story?id=15472375&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F

I am not making this up. It is a known issue in the medical field.

OP here.

DD, has talked to her doctor about it. Her doctor said because she is otherwise healthy, there is nothing to worry about (and he won't back me up).

She also looked up other things as well.
