Unless you win an Intel contest (and even some of those people don't get in) then with below a 3.8 and no special status (ie not white male or Asian) you won't get in.

I was a science major. You do realize that once you get past the memorization that science is ALL writing (grants, papers, etc.). To succeed you must be able to communicate your thoughts clearly.

In the interest of communicating clearly, can you please explain the triple negative in your post? Do white males and Asians really get special preference at MIT?
+1. Interestingly, while he criticizes the OP about the importance of writing, punctuation seems to have evaded him during his studies at MIT.

OP, if you are still reading this, are you certain that you really WANT a 'top-tier' school

+1. The original post was perfectly clear to me. White females and non-Asians (non-Asians who are not white males) have better odds of getting in. But you guys already knew that before you started carping about her grammar, right?

The challenging poster was quick to point out the inadequacies of the OP but seemed to have a problem communicating clearly. Some of which could have been cleared up with punctuation. While it seems trivial, it's hypocritical to point out OP's inadequacies without owning up to the author's own written deficiencies ESPECIALLY when everyone has made it a point to make OP understand that being able to express oneself in writing is extremely important. And that does include punctuation.

Evade? You mean elude. You're welcome.

Actually, both are acceptable. Not only does evade mean a physical escape, it also means to avoid dealing with or facing something or to avoid fulfilling, answering, or performing. So, while elude in this instance might be preferable, evade certainly is not incorrect. It depends on the writer's intention

Don't thank me. Thank Webster. Grammar lesson over and out.

Interestingly, one sentence really put a bug in your craw. Sexist? Him? Evade?

Something else is bothering you.

So let me get this straight. An actual MIT grad comes on to make the very same point you want to make ("science is ALL writing") and you jump all over her? Fortunately OP is probably long gone, or s/he'd be confused as heck right now.

No, the punctuation could not "have evaded him" because punctuation cannot act with the requisite cleverness or trickery. You're welcome.

And you're positive that it was an ACTUAL MIT grad? I'm not so sure about that based on his or her writings. Actually, who cares anymore?

I'm not the MIT grad. So now that poster is a liar, in addition to being a poor grammarian? You have issues!
