I feel defeated by the crime in Capitol Hill. Pl recommend a new neighborhood.

Crime on the Hill spikes every winter near the holidays. Gets dark earlier, the kids can wear concealing clothing without standing out, people travel a lot and leave houses vacant.

I totally understand if it bothers you, but so long as you take some precautions and pay attention, you should be fine.

So many people put themselves in compromising situations. At least 3 days a week I want to stop single women having long conversations on the phone walking home in the dark. Hello -- get off the phone and look around! You are making yourself a target!

Yes. WILDLY. Along the same lines, I know of women who smoked during their pregnancies, and their babies are just fine. These warnings against smoking are wildly exaggerated, based on my anecdotal knowledge. I don't know why the FDA isn't interested in my experience with this issue.

Related: people who are looking down at their phones while crossing the street. Doesn't matter that the walk signal is on! So dumb.

And you, apparently, have no ability to understand sarcasm.

First off, it sucks about your experience w Capital Hill. But then again, look at DC's government: it is a subset of the Federal Gov't. Neither entity could govern their way out of a wet paper bag. As for Hyattsville, WTF? Out of the frying pan, into the fire! Never move to a location where you hope/think there will be large, positive changes in the school systems. Pay up, and buy a good school system now - you already have kids, and made what you now feel is a mistake in Capital Hill. Good luck.

Friends down the street, however, have had their home broken into multiple times, car broken into multiple times, bikes stolen out of the yard, car stolen, and one of them has been mugged. Just terrible, terrible luck. They are getting ready to move, and I don't blame them one bit. People can have such different experiences, even when they live in the same block. Good luck, OP.

Is there a difference in you and them? Like why would they be more of a target?

Does it matter? OP is sick of the crime in his/her neighborhood and wants out. Criminals are criminals. Only a matter of time before OP gets hit.

North Arlington. Lived on the Hill for 2 years in a gentrifying section, wonderful area, great neighbors, helped diversify the 'hood, and only had one dead body in the street. But glad to be out. Then again, aw a nubile young lady running in almost nothing in September around 10pm as we left RFK. God Bless she felt safe, but man she looked like a target. Watched the Hill for 20 years, and while it has gotten better, it's still the intersection of sketch and middle class. And sketch will happily knock you out and rob you.

Crime can happen anywhere, but once you leave the Hill your stress level will go down. I had many friends that were mugged on the Hill when I lived there. That is not normal.

20 years on the Hill. You know, back when it really was sketchy. Never mugged. Never burgled. Just as useful an anecdote as people who have been targets.

Also, The "Hill" now encompasses all the way to RFK. And people are paying $550k for houses inTrinidad.

Crazy, but true.
Only so much close-in housing stock available.

In yen years, it'll all be done.
