I feel defeated by the crime in Capitol Hill. Pl recommend a new neighborhood.

With great public schools and a liberal community. Bonus if it's gay friendly. We adore the city so someplace that is not just strip malls is good too. And my spouse commutes to severna park 4/ week so someplace that it won't take two hours to get there is good.

Instead of giving up, why not do something about it? organize a neighborhood watch? start a safe streets blog/website? Pester the police and know every beat cop and detective by name in your precinct?

Moving from the Hill to mcllean deluxe might be a bit of a culture shock.

Mount Vernon Triangle. We are all gay here!

We left the Hill 15 years ago because of crime. Getting mugged at gunpoint seemed to be a constant. Sad.

Check out Hyattsville. Public schools aren't awesome, but good location for you and has a feel that's similar to what us Hill expats were looking for.

Another great option with better schools is University Park. Great feel, great community, well located for you.

Georgetown has a guard service paid by donations through the Citizens' Association.

But for Capitol Hill I checked here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/metro/usersguides/dc/CivicOrg.html
and discovered that Capitol Hill only has the Capitol Hill Restoration Society, which doesn't sound like it would be involved in arranging a similar guard service, but you might ask them.
It is not worth moving because all neighborhoods have a crime problem to some degree. Better to improve what you have.

So there is a lot of crime, bad school and you can't change your windows the way you like?

For more than 50 years, the Capitol Hill Restoration Society (CHRS) has championed the interests of residential Capitol Hill by working to preserve its historic character and enhance its livability through efforts in planning, zoning, traffic management, and public safety. Okay so does CHRS have a guards program?

I wonder what these criminals look like.
