This is why people buy in ashburn, you would die for a home like this in arlington

It explains why people overpay for cars, though. If you're going to spend almost 2 hours each way in your car, and the house at the end of the ride looks like that, you might as well have a nice ride.

I know you, and all your friends, work in/around DC, but this doesn't mean everyone lives in DC. Tysons is the second biggest job center in the DC area, Dullesland up there as well.

I honestly don't even "aspire" to a house like this, though. I truly don't like it. I don't care WHERE it is. I don't think it is attractive.

I have friends that live in similarly sized homes in Ashburn. I don't actually like their homes, either. I don't find them as unattractive as this one, but there is something about the style of these homes that is unappealing to me.

My quibble with those areas is it's just blocks and blocks of residential, no retail, no dining, few amenities. I like having at least the option to walk somewhere.

Anonymous wrote:Why in the world would a DC URBAN MOM OR DAD want to leave out in the freakin' sticks of Ashburn?!?

Because they are tired of living in a neighborhood that's been set to gentrify for the past ten years but never has (or live next to the one or two holdouts that can bring the whole place down?) Because they don't make $300k a year? Because they don't want to sweat the OOB/charter/what have you lottery? Because whatever gene that kicks in (usually in women) that makes them decide their kids need space, a quarter-acre lot, and a family-friendly environment?

Anonymous wrote:Working and living near or in Ashburn is one thing, but living in Ashburn and commuting to DC - NO WAY. I refuse to live in my car!!! I'd rather live in a 2 bedroom condo near or in the city with my family than drive the distance to Ashburn twice a day. Love my life in a close-in neighborhood in a small SFH. A house is not more important than family time.

I suspect most who live in Ashburn suck up the extra $200 and take 267 to Tysons, or 7 to Herndon/Reston. They might drive into DC if their job is "work at home unless/until you have to go somewhere" but it's not an every day thing. Of course, when the choice is "work in DC" or "not work at all" folks will make sub-optimal for them choices.

Gaithersburg/Rockville/Burke/Fairfax/Springfield are where the $100-$150k set live and commute to DC; the $50-$100k set live in Bowie/Stafford/Woodbridge.

Throw in the randoms who live in Annapolis, Leesburg, Fredericksburg, or Frederick because they make living in a DCUM-lite environment a priority.

Remember, folks, a higher percentage of Loudoun residents work in the county now than in 2000 -- I don't know how much of this is moms of school-age kids working in doctor's offices or other $30-$50k work though.

+1. They think it's a cute way to be dismissive of someone.

I live in PG and have never been to Ashburn, Oakton, Woodbrige. But I certainly know where and what they are.

OP, I'm sorry that someone in Arlington broke your heart, stole your dog, and shit in your cheerios. That's the only thing I can think of that makes you so motivated to trash Arlington. If you don't like it, don't live there. Happy you're happy. But your repeated posts pretty much scream, "I'm really insecure about Ashburn, see, I want to be cool and envied too! Why aren't people talking about how cool it is where I want to live?" Get over it and live your life.

The lady we bought our Georgetown house from claimed she had never heard of Pentagon City Mall. It is 2 miles away. Now- I get if she doesn't shop there- but not knowing about it--give me a break. Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp had one of their infamous meetings there as well. I am sure she's flown out of National airport too.

Some people living in DC proper love to feign ignorance of anything across the border.

PG-residing PP here. One couple we hang out with in DC (the DH grew up in MoCo, so knows the area well) has a rather eccentric group of friends. If we meet up at a bar in DC, their friends will ask me "OMG how did you GET here?" Um, in my car?? It's Saturday. I was able to drive here faster than you could walk to Metro and wait for the next train.

Yes, there are many posters here who don't like "shitshacks," we know this. Since it's Friday and I'm just relaxing with my coffee, I did a quick scan of some of the recent threads in the RE forum. Most posters here have a much better grasp on sentence structure than the person I'm referring to. How can it NOT be the same person? Arlington Hater/New Homes Booster are probably the same person. Also high likelihood of Pimmit Hills Boosterism.

Or (less likely) every person who wants to live away from Arlington and in a new build cannot write for shit? Hmm, no.

I agree with you, but how about we turn the RE forum upside-down by having a day where we pay homage to the Pimmit Hills booster by embracing his or her literary style, but challenge his or her pet projects.

Here are some possibilities:

"wow I discovered there were some other zip codes besides 22046, 22043, and 22182 or dun loring that feed into marshall"

"gee maybe w-l really is pretty good"

"arlington sure is convenient, no wonder people pay to live there"

"fixed up old houses can be nice, LOL"

I would die if I had to commute from ashburn.

not that poster but it's not that hard to copy when you dont live in a shit shack, LOL.

pink bathroom, radiators, tiny count most people out

the real hot places will be the silver line, developers are heavily investing there

+1, don't buy at the peak of desirability Arlington will go down hill as other newer metro accessible developments outside of Arlington are built

mediocre for this area, sub par elsewhere

Sounds bad

I wouldn't do it I would do only 22046, 22043, 22182 or dun lorring.

I write terribly and haven't posted on many of those. Not everyone cares to write a dramatic grammatically correct paper when posting on an anonymous internet forum.

no worries, you don't live in arlington so no one will care, lol.

I think it's beautiful, other than the wood colors in the floor - I assume it looks different in person though, right?

I would love to have a bathroom like the master.

This and the models in Freddricksburg make me briefly consider the 1.5 hour commute each way it would take to get to work. Then I snap out of it and revert to my & DH's commitment that even if we can afford such a large place, we'll go for something smaller and just give more to charity. No one really needs a house like that.

unless I was a family of 10, I can't imagine how I would need 4100 sq ft, no matter where I live.

opposed to the rows of identical tiny rectangle boxes. Unless there are many tear downs all neighborhoods old, new, far and close in have similar tract housing. As to arguing whether the smaller houses were intended to be permanent or house people of more affluent stature then their original target buyers, is up for debate.
