Do you pack your child's lunch if they can buy lunch at school?

They always get the pizza on pizza days. I'm told that "Only the allergy kids, the kids whose mom's forgot to order and the weird kids don't get pizza!"

Wheat allergy mom here.....I just burst into tears. No wonder my kid told me he hates his life because of his allergy the other night at bedtime.

Nut allergy mom here. While my child could eat the pizza, this post also saddened me.

I pack a lunch everyday. Unfortunately, DC is at a nut-free school, which makes it a little harder. Most days it's cheese or yogurt, shredded chicken/sausage/cut up steak (all cold) and sauce, pretzels or crackers, yogurt... Sometimes DC gets hot lunch, which could be pasta or chicken quesadillas. I get a little too into it.

5yo DD insists on buying occasionally and makes me check the lunch calendar... after a few days of bringing her lunch but seeing what the buyers were eating, she wanted to buy. She buys on pizza day, chicken tender day, etc... but she will eat almost anything.

This is really mean. I hope you correct your child when s/he says things like this.

And what about the kids whose dads forgot to order?

No kidding. To the PPP, what were you thinking when you posted that??? Gosh, can you really use such ugly words so freely because well....it doesn't affect you and your family. Man....get some manners. And I second the discriminatory statement about the moms forgetting to order. Last time I checked, parent = mom/dad. Wow.

We both work, however I (mom) packs the school lunch. I get everything ready the night before, after the kids go to bed. In the morning, I heat up anything that needs to be heated and put everything together in the lunch box. Lunch varies from leftovers to sandwiches, fruit & salad. Salad is usually from the bag that we eat at home. It's not that hard if you get most of the stuff done the night before.

I am impressed. Can you make my lunch?

If my son's school went nut-free, we'd have to transfer him out. He pretty much lives on nuts. Our standard is cheese sandwich with cucumber, an apple, some veggies - peppers usually, a kind bar and a bag of nuts. Sometimes I throw in peanut-butter pretzels.

She was told what she was told, and if you can't see her point, then it is definitely time to take your head out of your holier-than-thou-@$$.

Egg salad is pretty easy if you boil the eggs earlier.

My DD is a sophomore in PGCPS and she buys lunch. I hate packing lunches and she's fine with ordering something at school. Food isn't great, but she deals.

Aside from pizza day, my kids pack their own lunches. They have been doing so since kindergarten. I buy the food, they fix what they like.
