What do you think about the name Emmanuel?

My son has a buddy named Emmanuel in his daycare class...the family looks to be from East Africa (?)

As a white girl who named her son after his deceased father (from a country 99% of you could not find on a map) and subsequently have been stereotyped to be Black.... I say who cares what other people think...if the name has meaning to you, go for it.

I frankly dislike that name on a kid. I think of the Christmas carol and I would guess the parents are Christian and wonder if the child will ever have the choice not to be a Christian.

Love the name, and the meaning, but I kinda dislike the nickname. And "Emanuel" is kind of a long moniker to live without a nickname.
