For some reason it reminds me of a Hispanic name as well.

Funny: every Emmanuel (or Manny) I have known has been Jewish or black. I like the name!

Emmanuel/Emanuel is popular among the particularly religious within the Hispanic community, meaning, if you're Hispanic, and name your kid that, other Hispanics will probably assume you're very religious--and many Hispanic parents choose the two m's rather than the Spanish spelling. As I said, I liked it (and Manny as well), but I think DH was too blinded by Manny Ramirez (whose first name is Manuel...)

Don't like it or "Manny." Sorry, OP.

Emmanuel is a beautiful name. I don't care as much for the nickname.

It's my great grandfather's name (Jewish) so I have a soft spot. Manny, not so much.

Religious/ethnic.

+1. I think of selfy selfy to some late night cable channel.

Kind of like Mohammed. Or Jesus.

I like it. Although, every time I hear it, I follow it up with "Lutheran Church" silently in my head.

Manny is very blue-collar. No idea if you care but there you go.

My Dominican husband named his son Emanuel. He's not a thug, but they are somewhat religious.

That is my father's middle name and I love it. I wanted to name my son the same but my ex won on another name...Manny...not so much. But go for it!
