| In their annual reports for 2011-2012 school yr, MV reported 31% FARM and IT 18% FARM. CM is probably closer to IT's but only a guess. |
| So far, from this thread it sounds great: language classes three times per week + small class sizes. |
| Do these Charters with low FARM rates recruit actively in poorer areas of the City? |
| I don't know if they actively recruit anyone b/c honestly, I've heard about most charters on DCUM. The only advertising I've ever seen in real life was for DC Prep on the side of a metrobus and a few Yu Ying banners like what realtors use the year day opened around Adams Morgan. That's it. |
| Should say, the year they opened. Blech auto correct. |
| I have seen signs encouraging enrollment for Inspired Teaching on the sides of Metro Busses. |
NOPE. Because they don't want them. They should be ashamed. |
| Doesn't it have a lot to do with accessibility? |
I believe most FARM families stay at their neighborhood DCPS because of proximity to their homes. They are likely not to travel around the city for a school. |
Agree with this for the most part. I work with the lower SES populations EOR and, as a rule, they send their children to nearby DCPS or nearby charters. They are NOT sending their children to NW for school. They consider NW to be "way uptown". |
| How are Charters able to afford buildings in NW? |
This year Mundo Verde reports 29% FARMS http://www.dcpcsb.org/SchoolProfile.aspx?sid=169# and IT 22% http://www.dcpcsb.org/SchoolProfile.aspx?sid=185. Still no data on CM... http://www.dcpcsb.org/SchoolProfile.aspx?sid=201 I am just really curious. There has been so much speculation about the demographics of CM, yet no data to back it up. |
| IT actively recruited in ward 5 when it was here. Tons of info sessions. Hard to get folks to sign up for a brand new charter if they don't have tons of time for research, willingness to tolerate location uncertainty etc. |
| Is IT in a permanent location now? |
| No. |
