Who buys furniture on Craigslist?

I bought all my kids bedroom furniture of CL, but that was partly because I couldn't justify spending that much money on good quality wooden bunkbeds, which I know they won't want anymore in 3-4 years, and my younger son still has an issue with putting stickers on things... and if he puts stickers on his CL dresser, I'm going to mind a heck of a lot less than if I'd paid full value for it.

Estate sales are advertised in the Post, on CL and on estatesales.net. You can sign up there for email alerts.

We make about $175k a year and have furnished almost our entire house off CL and online auction houses. I have never had any bedbug issues. Bought some really fantastic wood dressers and bookshelves. They just don't make furniture like that anymore, or at least, they don't make furniture like that in my price range. These are high quality pieces with recognizable name brands. I bought a down cushioned loveseat from an auction house for $15. It's slipcovered now and looks fantastic.

Which auction house do you like?

Everyone who has bought from us have been full-grown good-job-having adults. In fact, a couple of them have established that we have mutual friends from law school or firms. If I had the patience and was a tad more flexible (which I can't be because of space limitations), I would do it in an instant. You can get some great stuff for about a third of the normal price. For instance, we sold one barely used, very modern pull-out couch that we purchased for $5000 for $500 (the office/guest room wasn't furnished for long before I became pregnant and realized a crib may be a better call; the crib was $2k and we sold it for $300).

You spent $5k on a sofa and $2k on a crib? Wow! More money than sense.
