The Catholic church does not condone same sex marriage. How can you teach kids one thing, but then have an example in the school that goes against the teachings? Of course a Catholic school wouldn't encourage use of contraceptives. They encourage chastity. That is the Catholic teachings. As of now, girls are not allowed to become priests in the Catholic Church. I agree it would be nice if women could have those positions. But the fact is that the church does not allow it now, so what is the point of encouraging them to do something that is impossible. |
Maybe you should consider moving to an Episcopalian church, where both the clergy and the congregation are open-minded and accepting of homosexuality, use of contraceptives, and allow girls to grow up to become priests. |
I am not a fan of girls becoming priests personally but yes it is 2024 and time to accept and love all. That is a Jesus teaching and the Jesuits I am familiar with also believe in these things too as does the Pope! Pope Francis said "Who am I to judge?" Many Catholics are open minded and progressive as was Jesus. |
Maybe you should get with modern times and not be judgmental. |
Many Americans in these "modern times" seem to lack critical thinking abilities, like the ability to assess the Catholic Church's positions with regard to women and gay people as discriminatory. |

Can you please say the grade? |
Oops just saw it’s a very old thread. |
It is an old thread but many of the posts are up to date including the one about the issues in the one grade. A few girls have left the school because of that class. But SR as a whole should not be judged by the one class, it is a great school and has much to offer. My guess is the PP was talking about 2027. It’s pretty well known. |
I do not know about 2027...just assumed it was class of 2028 or 2025 based on the parents. |

Speaking as a parent of a current student, the class of 2028 is a great group of girls. As of now in the 8th grade, I don’t know how new girls coming in next year will affect the current group that is staying. The girls are kind to each other, I have not heard of any bullying at all. They have groups of closer friends, but girls move in and out of groups each year depending on new commonalities. Some girls spand over 2 or 3 groups. New girls that have come to SR over the course of middle school have all found their places and seem to be happy. I’m friends with some of the new parents and have not heard any complaints. |
| The same concept of conservative SR parents not aligning with the administration is repeated over and over again on here, whenever the school is mentioned, probably by one poster who wants only conservative families to apply there. It's a great school! |
The “positions” you refer to have nothing to do with women or homosexual people. Priesthood is open to men in accordance with the divinely ordered nature of the clerical vocation; leadership within the Church is not entirely clerical, but properly exercised is penitential and sacrificial and not for the power hungry. The Church says homosexual actions are immoral, not homosexually oriented people. |
How is the class of 2029? |
