I'm so sorry. I was 41 when I did the M21, and my heart goes out to you. I hope somehow it's a false positive. |
The PP stated that she swore she never wanted to go through ammnio. She sounds pressured in her post. I hope you can allow this mom the freedom to make her own choice for her child. |
Huh? She sounded like she now had to do an amnio because she just got a scary test result. I did not get the sense that there was external pressure, just the pressure of needing to know if the result was accurate. Many people want to avoid an amnio by all means until some test suggests that something might be seriously wrong. Obviously, it is her own choice, and if she can live with the uncertainty, no doctor would force her. You post, however, did not sound pro-choice. It sounded like you were the poster who comes on these threads and recommends the perinatal hospice. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't imagine anyone but a "pro-life" advocate discouraging an amnio in this situation. Most people would want to know with certainty what diagnosis they are facing, even if it wouldn't change anything. Hopefully, PP will indeed find out that the blood test was wrong and can then enjoy her pregnancy in peace. |
My OB suggested the Panorama test over MaterniT21 because he said MaterniT21 has already had 11 false negatives. It's not a lot, but it is still 11. |
we also had a false negative our daughter was born 2/24/2014 we did the testing and then found out 2 hours after bitrth she had the features and within 24 hours was confirmed she had t21 she had two soft markers at the 18/19 week ultra but the doctor assured us it was nothing to be concerned with becasue of the test......she was obviously wrong |
I would sue over wrongful birth on that one. If the doctor could see it visually they should have told you to get an amnio. Flamers say all you want but the malpractice insurance will pay out and Down syndrome babies are expensive. |
The doctor informed PP of the soft markers and it's crap to say that the doctor should have directed the PP to get an amnio. It's not a doctor's call to make, it's the parent's. Also, it's not a Down syndrome baby, it's a baby that has Down Syndrome. Way to dehumanize a baby. |
Malpractice. You should sue the doctor! |

Way to dehumanize a baby. oh please. does calling a baby a female baby, a reflux baby, a white baby, a colic baby, etc dehumanize it? no, it doesn't. get over yourself. the parents should sue for malpractice for the simple fact that it *was* (it appears they didn't receive proper genetic counseling and in fact received completely faulty information) and they *will* get money for their baby which they *will* need. |

^^^^ this. |
Not pp but the two people I know w a T18 baby carried it until its birth... |
…And? PP said "most people" - she didn't say everyone. Also, don't you think it would be better to know beforehand your child won't survive long past birth, even if you choose to carry to term? |
I am sorry you got a false negative, but I am surprised that nobody told you the test only gives you a probability. Your doctor should have told you that, your genetic counselor AND the papers you received (did you read them) with the results should have been very clear about that. |
I believe that used to be true. The test now is positive/negative. |
