AAP Expansion and Haycock - Elizabeth Schultz amendment

Yes, that shouting neighborhood group of parents has really wrecked our school's community feeling, even among neighborhood families.

Dale said that these few students could be pupil placed "basically wherever they choose to go" he said staff/ admin would be very flexible with these students. So it sounded as if they could chose to stay. It was also mentioned that families that had a rising 6 th grader that was being grandfathered in Haycock Aap and also had a child in one of the lower grade Aap classes was also a special circumstance that families should file for pupil placement if they choose. It sounds like they are really going to try to make these special circumstances work. Try to watch the re- broadcast of the meeting.

I wonder how many of the 90 will come back through pupil placement. Not much overcrowding relief at all.

By the way, I can't believe a teacher testified that some of her current students should be kicked out!

Not a Haycock parent, but if the school is that over crowded, why didn't they just completely eliminate the entire center from Haycock and relocate all the AAP students as a group.

So sorry to those of you who have to move. I hope you find a much kinder school community at your next school than was shown by the Haycock parents.

They stated it was a "handful"of children that will have been move 3 times. They had the numbers in front of them. Also they said the spoke with Teacher'S not just one. We have no idea how many said what but I don't believe any would ever say " a student should be kicked out". The situation has to be incredibly difficult for the teachers as well. They along with the kids are experiencing it every day. Do forget they could be displaced as well.

This is what is being done at Hunters Woods, and what should be done at Haycock, but I guess they are just going to dismantle it one piece at a time. This year there are only 270 kids at Haycock that are not base school students. Next year it will be closer to 140. It's hardly a center.

8:24, you clearly did not watch the meeting. A 3rd grade teacher testified at the meeting in support of Strauss's amendment. Letters are fine but public testimony! And today she is going to teach those Cluster 2 kids!

Schultz asked the direct question about what is done if the school is closed to transfers and he didn't ask it directly. I took that to mean that they actually do pupil place at schools closed for transfer (as is evident on the Haycock dashboard). I sure hope that's right. It would be a travesty to move those children again because FCPS can't get its SH&T together. I think it's only 4-6 kids.

FCPS should have done a large scale boundary process in fall 2012 including AAP. Not left AAP instruction and facilities under Carol Horn who now for some elementary and middle schools has a scope of authority covering almost 35% of students. She runs the locations, curriculum, facilities, and buses.

Her program is putting a squeeze on budgets and facilties. Those ex Freedom Hill base school students are actually better off than the crew left in the overcrowded Haycok for that renovation. They get a place that is renovated with a new addition. They get Kilmer and Marshall. I suspect the Cluster 2 parents and board members will bounce out Cluster1.

Guess it has to come out of your own mouths. We've been telling you for months you weren't getting such a raw deal.

I have no idea what the last comment means. Lemon Road is a Cluster 2 school but it's physically located in Cluster 1. The neighborhood kids at LR go to Cluster 1 middle and high schools.

That is highly inappropriate and unprofessional.

Lemon Road is a split feeder to cluster 1 and cluster2.

So the PP was suggesting that, as revenge for being on the losing end of a 10-2 vote, Patty Reed will find a way to evict the Cluster 1 students who currently walk to Lemon Road from their neighborhood school? Lovely. Can't wait.

New AAP center at Wesbriar - does that mean the Westbriar Island kids will go to Langley now? What schools will send to Westbriar now?

I do not think that is what the PP was suggesting. I was just correcting the statement about Lemon Road being a cluster one school.

No boundary change for Westbriar island, and certainly not to Langley.

Westbriar AAP will come from Westbriar, Stenwood and Freedom Hill.

Yes, Level IV services will be made available throughout the McLean pyramid next year, which is great. That being said, it's clear from comments at last nifght's meeting that, despite all the angst over how to deal with the overcrowding, SB members in every district would love to have more schools like Haycock in their own districts.
