What $500-$1000 gift do you want?

60 inch tv or plantation shutters for my kitchen. On a non-practical note---an amazing handbag and spa day.

It's not the four seasons, but check out one of the massage chains (Massage Heights/envy). DH got me a membership last year, I think it's like $50/month, and having that hour massage every single month really makes a HUGE difference to me - not just the actual massage, but looking forward to it, the forced "me" time, etc

SUCH a good gift!

Just give me the cash

The only big ticket item I want right now is a Burberry trench coat.

I love this idea!

I would like a secretary desk for my laptop, files, etc. Like a mini-office just for me, where I can write thank-you notes, pay bills, and pretend like I'm working on my book, when I'm really just surfing DCUM.

I'd also love $500-1000 cash to spend on home furnishings, like new window treatments (or plantation shutters for the first floor), rugs, artwork, etc.

How about 10s and 20s? (kudos if you get the reference).

I've never gotten a $500-1000 gift in my life. I can dream, can't I?

Electrician to come deal with 4-5 small jobs we need done. Switches rerouted, boxes for ceiling fan in 2 bedrooms etc...

A new sewing machine, but the one I want is more than $1000. I will have to keep visiting it at G street Fabrics for now.

Dh got me this a few Christmases ago

How is this a gift? This is something that, as any household expense, is budgeted for and taken care of sooner or later regardless, no? I mean, how is this any different from getting a new fridge or a new bed? Doesn't the whole family benefit from it? Doesn't seem very "gifty" to me. It would be the equivalent of getting a new dishwasher. Unless it's from someone that is not benefiting from it, it's not really a gift, IMO.

New tires and other necessities can be a gift for those with very tight budgets.

I'm sorry, we live on a very tight budget and this is why having tires be part of expenses and not a gift even more important. When you are on a tight budget you don't get a lot of gifts as it is. I would much rather have a less expensive gift that is for ME than a new set of tires that is a necessity. It's the PP who suggested a partial mortgage payment. Sure, if someone that doesn't live with you gives you that, that's awesome. But your husband announcing "hey, this year your Christmas gift is gonna be half the mortgage!" wouldn't be a very popular choice, I'm guessing.

Maybe those who say Tires and a Partial Mortgage payment arent as MATERIALISTIC in life. OP didnt say WHO was giving the gift.....right about now, that Partial Mortgage payment would look good to me, seeing that I just lost my job last month. My DH and I do not exchange gifts, we buy what we need throughout the year. It is about making sure the kids have what they need for Christmas. One side of the family exchanges names so only one gift to buy, my side of the family consists of my parents, who say my coming home is their gift and my sister, who has never given anyone a gift to this day, kids and adults alike.

Wow. I had to look that up. $650 for a pan! How would you use it?

It is beautiful.

Oh, so many things. Risotto, braises, reducing stock, roasts. It's really an all-purpose pan. I would polish it daily and include it in all family portraits.

Awesome!

I would like a nice mixer with all of the special attachments (pasta, ice cream, etc).
