Dumpy townhouse can be yours for $1M!

They just pasted up some old digital pics for the sale. They were probably over levered, months/years behind on their mortgage, and evicted by the time the short sale list went up. Who know what it looks like inside now, likely worse.

evicted by the time the short sale list went up

Homeowners do not get "evicted" due to a short sale. They move out at closing, or rent back, just like any other seller.

Holy crap, that is ugly. But, nicely staged with that lived in look

I always thought this was public housing, because it is around the corner from some definite public housing that is not dissimilar.

Way overpriced.

How can people live in such sloppy clutter. I feel like an extreme neat freak looking at those photos.

That's right, here in Lala-land, you just stop paying and keep living there.

Oh my. Guess you know the big family you'd be buying from in their short sale!

Why would they pose for this pic?

Maybe the family conveys?

Compare the original listing to this one a block away, listed for $45K less. The agent on the original listing in this post has got to be on crack.

It is/was low income housing. It was all built with subisdies in various forms for low income families. The issue is now the neighborhood is very different and they are sitting on a goldmine and they know it. A developer offered up to 800k for each owner and like fools they said no. I think thats why they think can get this price now. Or maybe someone is calculating that they can buy it for 900k and then a developer will come back in two or three years and offer 1 mil for the buy out. Its fucked up that tas dollars subisdized the contruction and now people can cash out without paying back the write down.

I hope they had fun with the $300K+ that they cashed out of it, though, since the seller bought it in 1996 for $150K.

I guess it is possible that they "had fun," but it seems more likely that they suffered a business failure, health crisis or some other major event.

I vastly prefer this listing but it's not comparable at all. You posted a 2-level, 1475-SF condo and the original listing, while ugly, is a 4-level, 1692-SF rowhouse with a yard and parking included. Not the same.

True but the point is what you can get for the money. If you want a comparable (4-level, 1700sf) you're paying $1.2M or more and you're getting all of the finishes on the listing I posted, instead of a sad, ugly-ass space that hasn't been updated in years and was designed to look like the projects. Point is - these sellers are coocoo for Cocoa Puffs for even listing that dump near $1M. If you can drop that much cash, you can do exponentially better.

I think this was built as low income housing after the 68 riots gutted the neighborhood, and the block was empty.

Wow, this house is awful. Surprised at the clause, because I would have guessed, given the furniture, that it is renter-occupied. which would explain it not being clean when they came to take the pictures.

Ugh.
