I think these are in different categories. Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic and "The Ukraine"/Ukraine are simply generational errors, as you point out, that are hard to correct after 50 some-odd years of repetition. However, I am willing to bet good money that McCain never learned about the difference between Shia and Sunni in grade school. That is a much more serious error, as it suggests ignorance about a topic on which McCain likes to style himself an expert, in this case the war in Iraq. Ditto the Pakistan/Iraq border thing. The Pakistani Army is actually engaging US troops, possibly as we speak. To not know that the issue is the Afghan/Pakistani border is a pretty serious oversight, much bigger than forgetting that a Central European state divorced into two Central European states without much fanfare 10 years ago. |
I grant your point that my examples are not equivalent to each other in their significance. I would rank Biden's blunder closer to "Czechoslovakia" than to Sunni/Shiite. Having seen the clip of the Pakistan-Iraq border comment, I thought it was just a slip of the tongue. |
That's pretty much the impression i get. It 's like she's trying to write down any word and thought that comes to mind trying to fill up space on an essay question. Like her response below during her Sean Hannity interview: On the topic of Russia Ms. Palin: What we have got to commit to also, especially when we talk to Russia-no Cold War. We have go to know that our mind-set needs to be opportunity for pressure and diplomacy and sanctions if need be as we keep our eye on a country like Russia. On Fannie/Freddie Ms. Palin: Well, you know, first, Fannie and Freddie, different because the adverse impacts all across our nation, especially with homeowners, is just too impacting.... Today, with AIG, important call there, though because of the construction bonds and the insuranc carrier duties of AIG. |
She also mispronounces some words, like she read and memorized them but never actually said them outloud before. |
Other than nu-cu-ler, what else? |

She's Bush in a skirt. Along with the inability to pronounce words that have more than 2 syllables like Bush, she appoints friends to high positions and not because they are capable. She appointed her childhood friend to the head of the agriculture department in Alaska because when the friend was a child, she loved cows. The friend's qualifications for this ag appointment was as a real estate agent. |
My she's inarticulate! Interesting. She comes across in this interview the way she did in her speech at the church. She has a problem speaking extemporaneously. On the other hand, I saw her performance in the Alaska gubernatorial debates and she came across as serious and shrewd (not brilliant but shrewd), so maybe it has something to do with her being better able to cope in a controlled situation where she knows the issues better. (But then she should have excelled in the Hannity interview since it was structured to make her look good.) Will be interesting in the v.p. debate to see whether she speaks more the way she did in the interview with Hannity or more the way she did in the Alaska gubernatorial debates. |
Do you or anyone else think that there will be a VP debate? McCain will cancel his first debate and to make-up for that missed debate the schedule will have to be rearranged, and oops! By the way, there's no time or room in the campaign schedule or the tv networks schedule for a VP debate. What a great "out" for Sarah. |
Yeah, I wouldn't put it past them. |
Expect it! |
Stand up, Chuck. let 'em see ya. Oh, God love ya, what am I talking about. Roosevelt got on television in 1929 to explain the crash. Obama is the first clean, articulate... Yeah, glad the dumb one is not on your team. ![]() |
Funny how this thread kinda died after it was revealed that the hacker was the son of a Democrat politician from Tennesee. You crazy Dems and your hypocrisy. |
