| I've known white middle class families with professional jobs get aid at Barrie and Sandy Spring. It depends on their endowment and the demand, I would say. |
I am not the OP. I fail to see how this post is racist. |
| Sorry to see this post resurrected. I thought it had played itself out. Some folks just like to keep s$#@ going. |
Me too. Good post by 12.53 through. |

My bad....we are white middle class in California. We are desperate didn't pay attention to the location Dc
Btw I am American not white not Caucasian I dislike that label also in fact I have told my kids mark all documents on ethnicity and put American!!! |
| I live in Bethesda/Chevy Chase. No, I do not know any white people with FA except one who has more than a dozen real estate properties in FL that they can't unload. I'm sure there are white families in less affluent areas who qualify but that's not a reality around here. We could not afford a private school but we have other educational opportunities. I would not apply for FA because I feel like it should be reserved for those who need it to get those better opportunities. |
First of all, there are many whites who qualify for financial aid AND not all white families in private schools live in Bethesda/Chevy Chase/Potomac! So how would you know what is truly a reality around here? Do you really think your country club cronies would divulge they are receiving assistance? There are many whites who WILL NOT disclose whether they are getting financial aid for pride or being 'labeled' as many of the posters have done on this forum. Some of your cronies may has had their stocks crash, real estate fall flat, etc, etc. The financial aid is there for everyone. Whether you decide to apply is something you have to decide for yourself but please don't run around with this holier than thou attitude about white folks don't do financial aid. It is a flat out lie! |
White family in NWDC here. Child is in a top DC Private, HHI, 60-80 K range, receiving FA. Worked two jobs to pay 50% of tuition for years. |
Single parent here ( white). DC was granted 30% FA at a 30K a year school when my HHI was a little above 100k. When my income went down in the recession, the school offered slightly more ( 50% FA), but that was less than the EFC. I still had to work two jobs to pay half my income to tuition. I don't consider us poor. |
| 1 in 6 kids get some financial aid - almost impossible for those to be all non-white |
| I know a boatload of white families getting financial aid to attend private schools. |
