Magically? Is this how you show respect for the girl's effort to be great students?

I didn't have a 4.0 coming in. In my home country there's no such a thing as GPA so when I had my bachelor's evaluated I got the equivalent to a 3.8. Back home I graduated with a B+, not sure if this means anything here in your system. I didn't say anything to brag. It was just background for posters to understand what kind of student I am.

Grade inflation over here is pretty bad, too. GPAs over 4.0!

I made the choice to come to that school to stay close to my fiance, now husband. I did my part, to study and do well in the classes. I had a 4.0 GPA before this mess. I love studying and going to school and my part I did. The issues I pointed out were things that were out of my reach, things that didn't depend on me. My tuition was paid for. I enrolled in the dates I was supposed to and showed up for the classes. What else I should have done besides going to the office, calling and emailing them to make sure they were doing their job?

The bolded part is the most important -- stop being a victim. No one is going to fix this for you. You made a choice (now probably doesn't seem like the best one). You meed to fix it for yourself. Others gave you guidance about sending the certified letter. Do that and just stop.

OP here. I don't get why you're so mad.

I came here to ask for advice, some people asked for details, I gave some and we're just discussing the issue.

You go to the store to buy something, the product is defective, you don't complain? You just say "Well, I made a choice to go to that store, too bad the product is broken" and move on?

Well, I paid big bucks to learn and stay legal. I just don't think it's fair for them to conduct their business in this fashion.

OP... did you ever find your bouquet? Did you ever get out of your lease in the scary apartment that keeps losing power? Do you still sing to your child in Chipotle and the grocery store?

No one is mad except you.

Life isn't fair.

The school, according to you, didn't have anyone who specialized in international students and when they found someone you said she didn't know what she was doing. So if you knew that, why did you rely that person? The information that you would need is going to be available online and you could have verified anything and everything before you ever left the country. It seems like you have a good grasp of English so you clearly could have been able to read the websites or even called and spoke to someone at CIS. You can't go back and blame the school but at the same time acknowledged that you knew all along they had not idea what they were doing. I mean you can feel vindictive knowing that you were right about the person at school's incompetence if you want but I think that's all you can get a this point.

I think I was not clear enough. Let me say that again. When the person they put in charge told me she had never done that before I got scared and went to look online for information. I got conflicting information and went to talk to her again. She made several phone calls, checked my documents including my passport and got back to me saying I was good to travel.

I trusted her because the school put her in charge. I thought they knew what they were doing.

I didn't know all along. I thought they were doing the right thing. If I knew that I'd never have trusted them.

I know first hand life isn't fair and I'm not mad. On the contrary... I'm just curious trying to find out what's the best way to reach someone to make sure this doesn't happen again to other people.

Let me say this as clearly as I can. The school cannot authorize you to travel. You, and the U.S. government, make that decision. When you left the United States on an "emergency" you assumed responsibility for the possibility that you would not be allowed to re-enter. That possibility occurred. Not the school's fault. Your gamble and your's alone. The school does not guarantee your immigration status. No school ever would.

Ok let's try again. When they sign my I-20 they're acknowledging they know I'll be absent and will say I'm expected to return by X date to resume my studies. They're letting immigration know they're aware of my travel plans and that my status is current with them. They're saying I'm enrolled and complying with the regulations.

They signed the wrong I-20 which dates and major were not current. Their fault not mine. Actually we just found another mistake on their part. My last I-20 is listed with one major but the campus is another one so they updated my change of major but didn't update the campus where I was taking classes. Pretty disorganized people.

The dean of my new school is calling the old schools's president to talk to him about the delay releasing my papers. I guess I won't have to do anything afterwards.
