| IB is nothing more than a franchise. Schools pay big bucks and turn summersaults to earn the right to put the IB logo on their letterhead. For some reason that I have yet to fathom, IB carries significant snob appeal. From a curriculum perspective, it's definitely not worth the trouble or the expense. |
|
And there you have it. As with all curriculum framework and approaches, there are pros and cons, supporters and detractors. Now quit using this as a forum to bash individual schools, and if you're lucky enough to have a choice in schools, pick the one with the curriculum that appeals to you. Good god. What a bunch of meanies on DCUM!!!

What, exactly, are the pros to IB/PYP? |
| My child left College Gardens for another non-PYP MoCo school. The curriculum was the same with different names...except there was no language and no PYP characteristics/reflections. I would not say PYP was any better or worse...just the same. |
If the curriculum is the same, why spend the money for the IB designation? What's the point? |
| I have no idea. I assume that is why MoCo is not expanding the program. My older 4th grader did an ecosystem for "PYP" my younger 4th grader did it for Science. Same soda bottle ecosystem different school different name. |
| I have a kid going to Deal next year and it does not seem to have penetrated too deeply there much to my relief. The High School program is pretty intense, more because the scope of the exams and writing requirements. I just don't see how the PYP and MYP actually prepare you for the high school program. |
Haven't you read the IB propaganda? This isn't about high school. IB is preparing students to be global citizens! |
| The PYP (K-5th) and MYP (6th-10th) are independent of the IB Diploma Programme, which is only 11th and 12th grades. The MYP can't really be effective unless it is a full, school-wide initiative with all of the courses following the model. Otherwise, it is just too spotty to be effective. |

This program is nothing more than a UN brainwashing method to instill world government values into the kids.
See www.truthaboutib.com and www.mvsd-ib.org |
|
The point with IB is, the teachers must EMBED the UN philosophy of world government, AGenda 21, and MDG, as well as the UDHR as the overarching authority into their lessons. It's nothing more than making the kids political mules for UNESCO.

From Urban Dictionary.com: Conspiracy Theorist: Someone who hasn't yet grown out of being an attention seeking psychobabbler. A very mediocre kind of troll. Conspiracy theorist: "Reptilians control the world's most prominent bloodlines!" Unfortunate listener: "Zzzz..." Conspiracy theorist: "You are blind to THEIR lies, person who won't hang on every word I blather! I pour scorn upon you!" Unfortunate listener: "Yeah, whatever." |
| 7:12 here: I was being tongue in cheek. I don't think IB is a communist plot. Just a waste of money and effort for very little substance. |
