Has a good reputation. Kids around here shoot for UVA or Wm and Mary first. Richmond offers fantastic scholarships for instate kids who are really strong ( TJ/Maggie Walker kids)

Nothing against Richmond, but TJ kids are NOT enrolling there.

Look, you most likely know when they are coming back. So just be prepared and have make-up on this time. See if they notice.

You would think a school that's so selective would have decent name recognition. Can anyone not originally from VA offer any insight as to how it's regarded?

Acceptance rate is not selectivity. Uof R is a well regarded school, but they accept a slightly lower tier of student, comparing within high schools for relevance, than UVA and WM, as far as scores, course rigor. UofR is slightly less selective than W&L, but W&L often takes students who do not get into UVA , so it is not too competitive either. Davidson/Wellesley/Bowdoin are more well regRded and more selective than UofR and W&L, yet that group is a notch under the top5 LACs. UofR is considered like a Colby in the Northeast: good school but not close to elite.

Acceptance rate isn’t selectively but your opinion is?

I grew up in Michigan, Illinois, & Massachusetts, & was well aware of it. It was known for its beautiful campus, Spider mascot, & Div. 1 basketball team.

Davidson is in no way more selective or well regarded than W&L.

The brand for Richmond is like the University of Scranton or Dickinson, no better, no worse.

Class of 2027 admit rate for W&L = 17.36%
Class of 2027 admit rate for Davidson = 14.48%
Neither has officially reported admission rates for class of 2028, but Davidson announced a rate of approx. 12.5% at admitted students day.

Agree with you on the well regarded front; that is much more subjective. They are very different schools.

Compare stats from CDS.

Scranton!

This makes me chuckle. Richmond is really full of itself, I toured recently. They would be horrified at those comparisons. W&L is another college that is full of itself. Both are intent on asserting their selectivity. W&L even called itself a little Ivy on our tour!!

I'm curious how you arrived at this conclusion. Do you have a cite? U of R is called only "moderately selective" whereas UVA and W&M are both "highly selective". Schev's report on GPAs has both UVA and W&M way ahead of UOR: weighted gpas at at UVA at the 75th percentile at a 4.51 and 4.53 for W&M. U0R's is only a weighted 3.95. UoR does not attract the same caliber of student as does W&M or UVA

Not the OP but you can simply google this

UVA acceptance rate - 18.7%
W&M acceptance rate - 33.5%
Richmond acceptance rate - 24.4%

not really comparable, closest is between UVA and Richmond

Stats of enrolled is a better indicator in my opinion. SCHEV should have data.
.
+1 pre-TO stats of enrolled!
