Thanks.

I would put JMU bellow GMU.

GMU 51.7% accepted
JMU 59.9% accepted

OMG GMU is now better than Virginia tech!

Virginia Tech Admissions 67.0% accepted

I don't think you people understand rankings. Admissions statistics are not the only factor that goes into rankings. With reading and comprehension skills like you have, it doesn't look like you (or your progeny) would make it through the math and statistics classes at any of these Universities.

If you are going on acceptance rates, I think that GMU, JMU and CNU (among others, perhaps) all have lower admissions rates that VA Tech. VA Tech may be considered a "better" school, however, so there may be some self-selection taking place in terms of who applies.

We looked at JMU, GMU and CNU recently with our graduating senior. JMU seems to have happy students who love the place; does tend to attract kids who enjoy partying. GMU has a very international feel now; there are tons of smart, second-generation students from the DC area whose parents want them to stay close to home attending GMU now. Our sense was that there is a great deal to do on campus during the week, but that it's still rather dull on weekends. CNU has a beautiful new campus with incredibly nice, state-of-the-art dorms; not surprisingly, it seems to have a lot more conservative, Christian students than JMU or GMU. Seemed to be about 60% women, and not sure that CNU does a great job helping students to find employment. DC ended up picking a higher-ranked out-of-state school, but we thought DC could get a decent education at any of these schools. Had it come down to JMU, GMU and CNU, expect DC would have gone with GMU.

I grew up in Ffx Cty and graduated from hs in the 90s and had never heard of Christopher Newport University. What is it and where is it?

see, here's the problem. No name recognition whatsoever. Apparently it's very good, however, if you major in sculpture or Nursing - Anesthesia.

You go to schools like GMU to take classes and leave not like the other's where "The college experience" of bonging 15 beers is the main activity and learning is second.

Hmm, ok, thank you. I do not work in either of those fields so maybe that explains it. Thank you!

People major in sculpture? Really?? No wonder they can't pay back their loans.

PP here again: I just read a Wikipedia article about it and see that it is a relatively young school founded first as an extension of W&M in the 1960s and became its own university in 1996.

not sure what you are talking about but yu will find Cristopher Newport U. is the number one school in sculpure, so if you're into that, it might be for you. No shame in that, IMHO.

Yeah, sorry, I don't know what you are talking about either. You have a lot going on in your sentences, implying that attitude and dedication and real world life has gotten you two Ivy degrees, as well as a knowledge of Christopher Newport? Um, ok? That is. . .nice. Here is a cookie for you. Enjoy.

One of the better comments to come out of this thread lately (IMHo).

Given the choice of "other" VA colleges, DS1 passed over JMU to attend an OOS state school. He really wanted an urban campus and sports teams (to watch). If OOS were not an option, he would have chosen VCU.
