My whole family wears rash guards, they are great. But, they are for getting wet -- I don't wear them just out in the sun. For that, I wear normal breathable clothes.
Ge the zip-front kind, they are so much more convenient. |
Love Swim Zip from https://www.amazon.com/SwimZip-Little-Sleeve-Sunsuit-Protection/dp/B00ZY2QZ4E
The full body zipper is so much easier to get off and on. We bought a size up when we was 6 months old and somehow it lasted her 3 summers, no joke. |
Everyone in my family wears rash guards too. Sunscreen is important but rash guards are the gold standard for sun protection. |
Ok but...everything is a chemical. That water that they are wearing their rash garud into? Guess what?!? CHEMICAL LMFAO |
Yeah rash guards don't totally replace sunscreen. Some of my worst sunburns have been on my legs. But they reduce thr chance you'll miss part of your back or shoulders and get sunburned too. If you're ocean swimming it's also best to use a mineral based sunscreen. There's some question about the active ingredients in spray sunscreens and damage to reefs. If you're worried about "chemicals" the active ingredient in mineral based sunscreen is literally the same stuff in diaper rash cream. |
I’m obsessed with these: https://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/floral-duck-2piece-sun-protection-suit-e5554.html
Zulily has them pretty frequently. |
You need less than 10min of combined sun exposure in a day, if you're white(ish) and in shorts and t-shirt. My kids get that every day. They don't need to be sitting in the sun for hours on end while at the beach. |
Just about everyone else in this thread managed to say something in support of rash guards without this level of simpering condescension. |
DD is a bit younger but we took swim lessons at the YMCA this spring. I figured out that the rash guard one-piece suits with a zip down the front were the best bc it provided protection from sun, was easy to get on/off but did better than rash guard top + bottom bc that would ride up on my child and leave her torso exposed.
Like this but Gap also sells them: https://www.hannaandersson.com/baby-girl-swimsuits/61944-001.html?cgid=baby-girl-swimsuits&dwvar_61944-001_color=001 |
NP, have you ordered other clothes from that brand? I see them often on Zulily but i have been shy to buy bc I dont know much about the quality. Since my baby has been born I have bought cute stuff from online brands that are disappointing when they arrive. |
I find decent rashguards at my local Target and Walmart for kids. I've never bought pricey ones, and we use them a lot as we are in FL. |
I’m curious why you think 16 months and not walking yet means a long story. Like we would question you on that. Neither of my children walked at 16 months, can we stop freaking out when they aren’t walking by 1??? |
NP, my kid is 11 months. At her peds appts they ask questions from this Survey of Well-being of Young Children: https://www.tuftschildrenshospital.org/The-Survey-of-Wellbeing-of-Young-Children/Parts-of-the-SWYC/Milestones.aspx Its a very tough test for each milestone. I feel like my baby is doing great she "passed" at 9M but who knows how we will do at her next appt. I like my pediatrician and she said the milestones on this thing are advanced on purpose but i think it fuels worry. |
Primary.com sells them for babies with snaps on the bottom to make diaper changes easier! |
I found them super handy when my son was young. Less exposure and less reapplying sunscreen. He started to complain about the shirts last year at age four because we spend full days on the boat/beach and it was hotter.
When they are tiny, rash guards are nice even just for the extra peace of mind. |
