I pay 20% for hair and food But min 5 bucks for a taxi ride??? |
Really? $20 for a $55 haircut? That seems excessive. I like my hair stylist and all, but I generally do a 12-13 dollar tip for that. She spends about 45 minutes on my cut... is this totally off-base? |
| I had a $45 dollar haircut today and I gave her $15. She washed my hair and did a really good neck massage. |

I hate tipping my hairdresser. She does not make below minimum wage. It is absurd that they expect to be tipped on coloring my hair when the product costs about six buck and the profit for hairdresser and salon is $150-200. They deserve to be paid formtheir services and no more. You do know they earn $100,000.00 per year.

You are crazy or live in a bubble. So, if everything below $5.00 is insulting I better stop tipping altogether. God forbid a cab driver gets insulted by my singles tip….

Alright, somebody school me. I keep my hair pretty simple and only get it cut 2x a year or so. So with a $50 cut (wash, cut, blowdry), is tipping $10 really bad? I always give an additional $5 for the shampooer.
Would this make me marked as a bad customer? |
| $45 cut, $9 tip |
| Ok, I think we learned from this post that everyone likes to tip different amounts to their stylist and none of the high tippers can really justify their high tipping on terms if the stylist's salary. I think tipping highly for minimum wage jobs makes sense. I am extremely generous at restaurants, bars and even nail salons. But the hair salon I go to is upscale and my stylist is living a good life for the most part. She has trained and studied for her profession. I tip her but not to the excessive point. I feel that many of you are tipping so high because you are worried about how you look- cheapskate, not posh, etc. But really, don't worry! You can take it down a notch and your stylist will still have the same feelings towards you. |

OP, i just paid a similar amount to get my hair done ($200 total) and ended up paying $30 to the stylist, $5 to an assistant who helped and $10 to the shampoo lady who also happened to help with the blowout and gave me a killer 3 min neck massage. but just because i gave that much doesn't mean i thought it was right though... i'm just too chicken to look cheap to their faces. (even though i generally am.)

| My haircut usually is around 15. I just get it cut and sometimes use a coupon. Over the years have had a few 5 dollar hair cuts !!! I tip usually $3 |
