How much do you tip your hair stylist?

The service will cost me $195 (cut + highlights). What is the norm?

Last time I used a "student" and it only cost me $40.00 for both, so I tipped $60.00... She was wonderful, but I cannot wait for her next opening...

I know I am going to be cheap compared to people on this board...

I go to a hair cuttery in the suburbs where I found a lady I really like. My cut + highlights is about $150. I tip $15. Have been for years. She still does my hair, and really well at that, so I guess she doesn't hate me too much.

I tip 15-25% depending how good of a job she does (different person each time).

My cut and highlights come to $165. I usually tip $32, split between the stylist (who is also the salon owner) and his assistant. The assistant usually gets $5-$7 of it, depending on how much she did.

So you tip the owner/stylist? Is that the norm?

We got to the same salon (get back-to-back appts with the same stylist). My cut is $22. DW's is $42. I type $10 for both of us (about 15%). I also tip the shampoo gal $4. We've been going to this same place for 10 years.
