| Frustrated mom - what scores were sent? How did you fund out? |
| *find* |
How do you know that the committee received the wrong scores? |
How do you know wrong scores were sent? That sounds very weird. Did the teacher send wrong scores? |
|
Who or whom is on this central selection committee? Is it the same one? Do they do this year round? Can we speak to them?
|
| no you can't speak to them. the committee is made up of principals, and asst. principals from around the county. they are used to seeing hundreds of kids, report cards, test scores all year long. last year our principal was on the committee - she had 30+ years in education. |
|
And does this same committee meet for appeals or a different one? Just curious about the inner workings. I certainly feel they are well qualified, but wondered how it was all put together.
Thanks for previous answer. |
| I wonder why they don't have GT experts on the committee. |
|
FCPS needs a major dose of transparency. Secret committees are never good... |
I would hardly call it a secret. Have you read these boards? |
Yeah, nobody knows the official rules. Guessing what the standards and metrics are.... |
| There is no big secret about the committee. It is made up of principals, vice principals, AARTs, etc. They sit in a big room with tables of 6. The file is passed around the table and reviewed by each person. After someone reviews the file, they decide whether the child is eligible or ineligible and indicate that decision on an individual piece of paper that is put in the back of the file. After the last person at the table makes their decision, all of the decisions are reviewed. If there are more eligible, the student is eligible. If there are more ineligible, the student is ineligible. If there is a tie, the file is passed on to another table of 6 (and even another if necessary) until the tie is broken. The committee members do not know the decisions that the other people at their table made, so that they can make their own determination without influence. |
| sounds fair |
| It does sound fair. And I have heard there is an oversight committee that looks at the files another time. With the initial process plus the appeals process, I will never understand how so many think that their child wasn't given fair consideration. |
