what are the best elementary schools in Fairfax Co?

The poster who dislikes Haycock obviously does not have a child there. No statements have been made about cancelling after school activities or putting the entire school into trailers during construction. He/she is just making things up to support his/her cause.

We just attended the Kinder orientation meeting at Belle View Elementary. I was pleasantly surprised at what they had to offer. It's on the smaller side, which I like. They offer outdoor education and have a garden on the school grounds.

We love West Springfield Elementary! A great school with wonderful teachers and a really involved PTO. They are going through a renovation now too. School is on the smaller size in terms of student body. Less than 500 kids.

Good luck!

We love our ES, Terra Centre. It's very community oriented, kids are all from the same area so you see them around the neighborhood, warm teachers, fun activities. My kids are getting a wonderful education. Great school!

Is Terra Centre the school that looks like an underground bomb shelter?

Yes, and I've heard it's actually not that great, even in comparison to other Burke schools.

Terra Centre is pretty light inside. Lighter than you'd expect. "Good" is all relative. We've enjoyed all of DC's teachers and our neighbors have had similar experiences.

I think you're thinking of Terraset in Reston.

Did not realize there were two. I read a little about Terraset because we were considering the area for our daughter who is in K this year. It was based on environmentalism of the 70s. The design didn't work out as envisioned, mostly because the solar panels were meant for desert climates, not ours.

There is a front of the school when you drive up to it, but yes, it is mostly underground as an energy saving feature.

Another vote for Terra Centre in Burke, a fantastic school with great teachers and a very active PTA.

Don't be a jerk. They are both good schools now, and will still be good schools after the shift of some FH students to LR.
