| amen pp--the predjudice for Catholics in DC is just breathtaking. Have no idea where the anger comes from..a lot of people do not realize I am Catholic (we don't go to a Catholic school) and it is not uncommon to hear nasty remarks. And you are correct if I said this about other religions..it would be labeled accordingly..as it should but with catholics..the hate is okay. |
Your post confirms exactly what MD parents are really like and what they really care about the most; athletics and winning. |
Yes. The Catholic Mafia is huge. |
You forgot running up the score. |

Having attended a prep school in the DC area myself and have lived here and NYC, I have often times noticed its parents of Gonzaga, Visitation and Georgetown Prep students who are obsessed with where their son or daughter went to HS - even if their child is out of college.
Mater Dei is a great school, the boys seem to love it there. IMHO it appears to be a school to be stuck in the 1950;s. The only foreign language it offers is Latin and its science labs need a major upgrade. It seems like most prep schools in the area offer Spanish and French in lower school and some even offer Chinese. |
| George Hughely went to MD. |
You sound delightful. No sort of meter is necessary to measure the tacky shouting and gruffness of the Mater Dei families on the sidelines that I've seen. I'm sure you all must think it is charming, strong, or something positive, but it just comes across as classless. Nothing about this reflects who is winning or losing the game in question, it is just the lack of basic social skills of the parents. Something to work on. |
| When a school is proudly Christian, testosterone friendly and resistant to ever changing styles/morality; it stands out. |
Let me give you an example of what Mater Dei stands for. MD's 8th grade team played a visiting club team from Williamsburg. Keep in mind that nearly everyone on that MD team is really a 9th grader who either flunked or repeated a year just to be bigger on the athletic field. MD won the game 24-1. Great sportsmanship and "good guy" values they teach over there. |
| Was the Williamsburg school pro gay marriage? It's relevant. |
| Lol |
| What's worse: MD's facilities, MD's curriculum, or MD parental behavior at sporting events? |
Sounds like the Williamsburg coach did a poor job of scheduling and ended up overmatched. Sometimes these other teams are so bad that the superior team can't help but score. When the coach puts in his worst players they still manage to beat up on the weaker team. That's how athletics frequently works. Lopsided scores are part of it. Purposely doing less than your best against a poorer team is sometimes viewed as an insult to the weaker team. |
Obviously someone who has worked herself up into a state after seeing her son's team beaten badly on Seven Locks Rd. |
The MD mentality - deflect and deny. |
