"Gay or European" sounds like a great SNL skit to me!!

OP here.. I definitely take it to mean in one way or another, the guy is unavailable. To the PP who asked, I am single but definitely won't look twice or waste my energy on a married or similarly unavailable guy.

He is engaged. In many countries when you get engaged, a gold band should be used on your right hand to indicate that your are engaged. Your fiance buys it, propose and place it on your right hand. When you get married, the same gold band is removed and placed on the left to indicate that you are married.

The majority? Do you have any stats to back that up? I've lived in other parts of the world, and never noted that to be true. I wonder where exactly that is a tradition.
