They chopped down and partially removed a 45 year old hedge (totally on our property) that blocked their view. They had asked us if they could trim it, and us being the nice people we are said yes. Of course I should have clarified the amount they wanted to trim. They have done it in the past and only remove a couple of feet. This time they waited until we went away on vacation for a week, and they totally destroyed the hedge. They also poisoned the runners for good measure, which ended up killing sections of the hedge. Now we have no privacy and the hedge looks like shit. We are in the process of taking them to small claims court and we have photos of the previous trim jobs to prove that there was a standard agreed upon. Hopefully we can recoup the cost of a new hedge or a fence. They are angry about the hedge, it does block their view, but we have lived here 10 yrs longer than them, and the hedge pre-dates all of us. I feel they shouldn't have bought a house that has a view contingent on us trimming our hedge if it was that important to them. The main thing is, we never begrudged them a view, we just don't want the hedge to the ground.
