I was the one who posted before, and I agree about soft and not mushy! |
I like this very Southern menu. Have always wanted to try frying my turkey. |
| Can you please tell me how I can fry the turkey this Thanksgiving without buying a giant frying system for the backyard? I would love to try it but also do not want to fry myself! |
| OP Here. Fried Turkey! YUM!! I haven't had it since I moved up here(13 yrs ago) It is is absolutely the moistest turkey EVER! Enjoy! |
HA! I love the orange fluff! I may have to make some! My grandmother does make a good potato salad! To sound perfectly crazy , when I moved up here I wouldn't touch another potato salad. Throughout the years, I have learned that there are different types and I am not "cheating" on my grandmother!
|
LOL! Not "cheating" on your grandmother with other potato salads? I love you! |
By the way, the last post was from me, Nashville Girl. |
OP here! Yes! There is nothing better than her potato salad...well, maybe my mother's chocolate pie!
|
Our usual menu is almost exactly the same, minus the lentil loaf & sweet potato biscuits, plus cranberry sauce
I started making corn pudding for Thanksgiving about 8 years ago & now my mom makes it, too, the years she cooks. I don't know why it's not a more common T-giving dish. I also make apple-cranberry pie instead of plain apple. |

Some of us are vegan, some not. Here's our menu:
real turkey breast turkey gravy Tofurkey roast (stuffed) vegan dressing on the side (we all like stuffing!) cranberry sauce mashed sweet potatoes green bean casserole corn banana nut bread apple pie |
| No one has down lasagne? C'mon! Always for every holiday. |
| Ina's spinach looks great and got crazy high ratings. Can it be made a day ahead and reheated? I'm hosting over 20 at my house and have 1 oven. |
|
We are having a mix of turkey eaters and pescatarians.
smoked trout spread w/ crackers Turkey breast Gravy Shredded brussels sprouts w/ mustard butter Potatoes gratin Roasted garlic mushrooms Green salad Green beans Pumpkin roulade Cookies (likely gingerbread) |

Growing up my Southern transplant Grandmother always hosted Thanksgiving and I continue her tradition of serving two meats for people (like myself) who can't stand turkey.
Turkey Gravy Ham in Cherry Coke Cornbread Stuffing Braised Red Cabbage (with the ham's pot liquor) Green Beans Sweet Potato Pone Homemade Cranberry Dressing (seriously, it takes 10 mins) Rolls Mississippi Egg Pie Sweet Potato Pie |
New Yorker, here. This menu makes me homesick. Replace the tollhouse pie with pumpkin pie and this is my menu. |
