OMG, I never thought to make TWO pumpkin pies. We always seem to have just enough pumpkin pie, with none for leftovers (whcih is the best part of Thanksgiving), and I would always have half the 29-ounce can of puree left to to refrigerate or freeze for later. This year I'll make two pumpkin pies! Thanks for the idea! |

We will be with my 88 year old Grandfather for Christmas so it's going to be very traditional this year:
spiced nuts crudites turkey gravy classic stuffing green beans almondine mashed potatoes sweet potato casserole (topped with cranberries, candied nuts, and crystalized ginger) homemade cranberry sauce with orange and crystallized ginger creamed pearl onions pumpkin pie apple pie My husband is mourning that we're not having brussels sprouts but my GF hates them. |
| by Christmas I mean Thanksgiving. Heh. |
I'm glad my typo provided a flash of genius for you. You can't go wrong with double pie. |
LOL. Typo? Seriously? Well, that's serendipity for me. |
I am the Georgia OP with the fried turkey... wish I could give you some pointers but my DH and BIL and FIL handle that business- I stay in the kitchen with MIL and SIL and do the rest! It does seem to involve a deep fryer on the back porch and I know that you MUST make sure your turkey is 100% defrosted before you put it in because if it's still frozen at all, it will basically explode in the fryer. |
Thanks for replying. I guess I'll have to research this for NEXT year. That's got to be a huge deep-fryer! |

So so sad that it is my MIL's year for thanksgiving. Our menu:
turkey (dry) stuffing (boxed) sweet potato casserole (wonderful-provided by an aunt) salad (bleh) split pea soup (bleh-from dry mix) sauer kraut (DH's grandma) cranberry sauce (homemade-me) apple pie (homemade-me) pecan pie (homemade-me) Can't wait until next year... |
forgot chopped liver from DH's grandma. She's a German Jew, hence the sauer kraut and chopped liver. |
You definitely win the Saddest Thanksgiving Menu award in this thread. |

No, I think my MIL's Thanksgiving menu is the saddest. She doesn't like anyone to bring contributions of food to liven up this meal:
turkey - roasted too long wild-rice-and-chestnut stuffing - wild rice? gravy - thickenedwith cornstarch, fat-free boiled, cubed potatoes - no butter, fat-free peas - from frozen, no butter, fat-free celery sticks - raw, fat-free carrot sticks - raw, fat-free cranberry sauce - jellied, from the can apple pie - store-bought, soggy crust pumpkin pie - store-bought, soggy crust And nothing that she makes has enough salt in it. |
