| Hell no! Traffic becomes 10 times worse in this area when school starts! And dont get me started on the school bus drivers! |

PP, I just LOVE it when people pretend to know about New England and repeatedly put their foot in their mouth. It is so obvious they know nothing about New England. But by all means, keep talking. You are amusing, like so many here! ROFLMAO! |

"Huh? New England doesn't have a "much worse jobs picture" in the abstract (and certainly not 20 years ago) My point was, our job situations would be worse *now* if we were to move *now*. We can only work from where we are *now*.
RE moderate summers and really harsh winters, bad/good weather is a very subjective thing. I LOVE winter. I am always disappointed when spring comes. And I love moderate summers, with cool or cold nights. So yes, eventually, I can and will move back to a climate that fits that description. " Of course you're going to anxious for fall in DC if you prefer New England summers. And who cares what the job picture was like in New England 20 years ago? I have bad circulation, so I hate the cold, and I love my AC. Shrug. |
Another southern Californian who's obsessed with the weather. I just don't get it. |
| I love the loose, carefree days of summer but I'm sick of my skin sizzling every day in the hot sun. I'm looking forward to crisp, cool days ahead. |
| That's all they got going for them, so they repeat it obsessively. Of course, they live in the fucking desert and have no water, but hey, it's always sunny! |
Why so nasty? No one is attacking you. I don't get it. |
What a dick.

| Going to northern Minnesota next week. It's 68 degrees there right now. But it looks like it's only going to be in the 80s in DC all next week. Enjoy! |
It's a preference, not an obsession. Personally, I love the weather in the Pacific NW. My preference isn't indicative of an obsession. I'm afraid you're misguided. |

I am so with you.
I absolutely fucking HATE our summers here. Hate. With a passion. Barely go outside if I can help it kind of hate. NE summers are definitely much more pleasant. I only wish I could escape for a month of every summer. I am very eager to fall to come. |

I am originally from Minnesota and I've just never gotten used to the summers here. In fact, I've become increasingly less tolerant of them as time goes on. It doesn't help that last summer and this summer have been especially bad. By about this time every year, I find myself barely leaving the house, blinds closed. I stop caring about weeding and watering plants. I stop grilling out because it's not worth the hassle of sweating it out. I think one of the things that gets me is the constant sun combined with the heat. And lack of rainy days. In the midwest, you have stretches of hot weather, but it's broken up by a cloudy, cool and/or rainy couple of days. A chance to cool off and regroup. But it's relentless here.
I find it funny how people who say they love the summers here spend the majority of it inside in the AC. Back home, people sit out at night, maybe around a fire. Windows open, feeling the breeze go through the house. That's what summer is. Not continually drenched in sweat. I often take 3 showers a day during the summer here. And there's something wrong when you have to run on the treadmill in the summer vs outside because of the heat. Unless you are at the beach or boating every day, DC summers are no fun. |
OP here. We were on Keuka Lake. My parents have a cottage there and it's our refuge. I think Keuka is the most beautiful lake and certainly the best for swimming. Plus there's several wonderful wineries surrounding the lake... Frank's, Ravines, McGregor are all great. Swimming/drinking is my MO while we're there. Seneca and Canandaigua are also popular, but I love Keuka the most. Here's some info: http://www.keukalake.com/index.html Everyone loves the Adirondacks and Lake George but the Finger Lakes are just as good IMO (and fewer people know about them!). As far as summers here, I wouldn't loathe them if we could just hang out at a pool all day. But it's carrying on the regular workaday routine in this Sweatfest that gets me down. Metro, walking in the heat, just the relentlessness of it. I know I sound spoiled that I had a month off, but it was a downer getting back. Usually I like it here. Spring here is the most beautiful I've seen anywhere. |
| I work and my kids have been in 4 different camps (mostly great camps), but every week feels like a new logistical challenge. I look forward to Fall and having the same schedule for a while, but I love summer too. |
Thanks, I needed that chuckle. |
