Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Yes, Longfellow and Glasgow are different. Longfellow is much more over-capacity, among other things. The Staff recommendation keeps the AAP center at Glasgow, and no amendment was proposed for the June 28th meeting to move it to another school. So the issue boils down to whether a few more students at Glasgow from Columbia Pines would significantly affect any future decisions that might be made. I tend to think that it wouldn't, and there's certainly been no groundswell of opposition to the move from other parents in the Glasgow/Stuart pyramid. If anything, they are probably flattered. |
| I don't really think this is on many people's priority list. It's just that it really makes no sense to add a neighborhood to a school that is going to be overcrowded in a few years. |
From a pure numbers perspective, perhaps not, but it's never solely about the numbers. The numbers here are not significant, and actually listening to what the Columbia Pines residents want sends a positive message. Anyway, I guess we'll see what happens soon enough. Maybe the whole thing will get pushed off until September. |
