the most important part of a teacher's craft is knowing and understanding the needs of his or her students and designing lessons for those students. Requiring teacher candidates to give a demonstration lesson for a group of unfamiliar students is a pointless exercise.

Agreed - it's more of a "wow" experience for people who thrive on being impressed with performance.

Maybe they should stick to dancing with the stars or American idol.
