Would you ever leave DC? If so, where would you move?

The locals have absolutely no idea, because it is all they have ever known. Which makes them one of the reasons most of us can't stand it here. Boy would they be enlightened if they truly experienced other places! My MIL had no choice, she was just glad to get out of her own hell town, so they pretty much epitomize the same. If you've known better, it's that much better Cue the "then leave" posters that make it so pleasant here.

Great question OP, it is nice to know there is light at the end of the tunnel! I would say...hmmmm... just about anywhere else. Cheers.

I am one of the locals you love to hate on and yes, I have lived other places. In the end, I came back here for too many reasons to list. Yes, there are other places I would enjoy living but the cost of living is not any lower (San Francisco being my top choice) and we have family here/close by.

Honestly, I am not telling you to leave out of rudeness -- if you hate it here, that is totally fair. However, find a way to move somewhere else and stop being so freaking miserable!

it takes all kinds, huh? I went to a Catholic HS, so this kind of thing was OK there. But I would fight like hell if they wanted to have a prayer at a public high school football game. Completely inappropriate.

Did I miss something about the pledge? I know my daughter says it in preschool. Last time I checked, kids are still saying it, so what's the fuss?

Does your God shrivel up a little when a prayer isn't said before a HS football game?

sad that you would fight over saying a prayer.

Please. You'd fight and go apesh*t if the same high school prayed to Allah at a high school football game. It's not appropriate at a public school, period.

Moved to DC from Manhattan and can't wait to go back!

But we are stuck here because of DH's job. He has his own company that growing like crazy. I have just accepted that I will have no friends and my children will be friends with kids I can't stand.

Why not move somewhere else in the DC area where you might find more like-minded people? What is it that you don't like about people in NW DC?

Move to Arlington. I promise you'll like it better than DC.

I would go back to Massachusetts in a heart beat.

I bet you were against the expansion of Islamic Saudi Academy.

exactly the point I was trying to make when I said I would fight if they wanted to do this at a public high school. It isn't appropriate to push Christianity on non-Christians. There are times and places for prayer - A public high school event isn't one of them. You can say a prayer privately if you want, but an organized, school sponsored prayer at a non-sectarian event is ridiculous.

I was the one who said it is sad that you would fight over saying a prayer, and I certainly would be ok with saying a prayer to Allah or just having a non-denominational type prayer, or ones to all faiths. Why assume just because you want to have a moment of prayerful reflection before a violent hard-hitting dangerous game that you are automatically intolerant of other faiths? We always had a prayer or moment of silence before games growing up, and all faiths were welcome and participated.

Ewww. Arlington? Seriously? That's where people who can't afford to live in Upper NW DC go to bitch about how bad DC is.

Nope. We've invested over 10 years in our community here and don't want to leave it. We're almost done with our mortgage, so the cost of living doesn't make me too wary. We live simply.

Would love to move to Austin or maybe Chicago. Of course, the weather sucks in Chicago but I like almost everything else about it.
