Hmmm - not sure which burbs you are talking about, but I don't think the Reston area is full of entitled brats. We moved here in 2005 from another area in Fairfax and absolutely fell in love. Prior to 2005 we would have gladly moved. Now, we are trying to figure out how to stay (my DH is military, so staying might not be an option). If we can't stay, we are trying to figure out how to financially swing it by renting our place until DH retires in 7-8 years. Yep - we love it that much. The people are really friendly and I haven't seen entitled brats. We love the sense of family and community in Reston, as well as all the outdoor activities that are available. We know our neighbors and some more than just in passing. People/strangers actually smile at each other. Go figure. |
Bmore sounds good. A place in Fells Point. Could become locals at one of the bars there. |

Stow/Hudson, Ohio. My SO is from there, and I have always loved the area. |
I live in the Spring Valley neighborhood of DC. I don't think all of DC or the Metro Region is like Spring Valley. |
| I want to move to NC. To the beach. To bad high paying jobs aren't there... |
Nooooo, really?!!! I grew up in Hudson! I don't know if I could go back and live there, though. It's a pretty town but it's too elite for me these days. But, man, do I have fond memories of small town life - the ice cream social on the town green, the Memorial Day parade, back when my dad participated in the community theater and I learned the lines to every song, and when my mom was on the village council. You're making me nostalgic, pp. I miss my folks today. |

They are but it's COLD there! Grew up in Cleveland.

First Bmore PP here: I used to live in Lauraville, but I always dreamed of being able to afford an apartment in Fells Point. Then when I'd had too much Rezzie to drink I could just stumble home. .......That would have been the life. Federal Hill and Charles Village would be cool too. |
| Former Minnesotan here getting ready to move back soon. Minneapolis/St Paul is a hidden gem. For those who can tolerate the cold, it's am amazing mix of good paying job, low cost-of-living, low traffic, laid-back lifestyle but with tons of city amenities, AMAZING arts scene (2nd to NYC in amount of theaters per capita), healthy people, lakes in the middle of the city to walk around, EXCELLENT public schools, friendly people. It's also progressive and surprisingly diverse (many refugees settle in MN because they are welcomed there). It's really a great place that few ever discover. |
| I don't think I'd leave DC unless I had a very good reason (DH got an amazing job offer somewhere else that would make us financially set for life). Having lived other places, I think DC is a great place to live and raise a family. If I were to move, it would be somewhere south of here and preferably near a beach. |
Hard to say. I've liked most places I've lived better than DC in some ways ... Japan had amazing food and public transportation, Philly was home and I was a local, Connecticut had better weather (I hate the heat) and architecture, Vermont had gorgeous scenery, California was so easygoing and health-conscious, Michigan was unpretentious. But none of them, except Japan, could rival the walkability and culture we have here. DH and I are fortunate enough to have jobs here that we both like, and that's a hard thing to sacrifice. Plus many of our friends are here. I dream about moving to New England or the West Coast for the weather and space, but it's too much of a sacrifice for everything else. Maybe we'll retire to Maine or Colorado in 40 years. I'll have to encourage the kiddos to go to school and settle in those states. Because otherwise, when the time comes to move, we won't want to be that far away from family!

| Yep, left over a year ago. Back home to North Carolina, living in Raleigh. LOVE it! Sometimes miss the restaurants in DC, but that's about it. |
| Cody, Wyoming or West Texas. Someplace where folks aren't afraid to pledge allegiance to the flag and where a little prayer before the high school football game never hurt anybody. |
| SW Virginia would be God's Country. Roanoke or Salem or someplace further in the mountains. |
