Do you think ADs Google parents of applicants?

But asking for this information from enrolled families is different from requesting it from applicants.

They don't need to Google the applicant parents. The parents fill out an info sheet with the application that asks:
University attended?
Alum status of school?
Profession?

If your DC attended a pre- school there is a question asking to share thoughts on what the parent brought to the community.
Parents also drop, " My husband was just posted to Washington... we are with the X Embassy; is it too late to apply ?"
"We live on same street as so and so and our kids have always been great friends"

Sidwell had a surprise parent essay the day of your child's "play date" The AD said, "it is up to you, tell us your family's story" " We know this is a surprise, but we do it this way so to remove the temptation of parents pay someone to write it for them" You will have 20 minutes, go....ok, pencils down.

They haven't done the pop quiz at Sidwell in years, which is annoying since I write well in a pinch. I would have much preferred the pop quiz to the months of agonizing over the thing.

Not all schools ask for parents' education.

The AD told us that he googled DH because he had an interesting business.

Wouldn't they have to do at least a preliminary check on everyone first, maybe a basic google? Otherwise, how would they know who to run through the special development software (I'll assume that exists)?

Some of this info is available verbally from your previous school, when you apply from a feeder school to a new MS or HS. When we applied, the head and AD went around to the all of the schools to "plug" the kids applying to each school, which we assume meant that they also talked about our family's engagement, monetarily and volunteering, with the current school.

Development offices routinely do checks on parents/potential donors. There is lots of software out there that can be used for this. You would be amazed at the info they can and do get. And yes, ADs or at least development googles and zillows you and your spouse.

I personally don't see anything wrong with this, especially if they are trying to determine FA for you or other families (ie your ability to give). Although now most FA is run through a third party "impartial" service.

Do they do this before they accept you, or after?

Sometimes "curiosity does kill the cat" -- I'm sure the ADs google some of those they expect are Big $$$ types.

I would guess that they google people they're curious about, just as many of us (most of us) do in our professions. But I doubt the major criteria is $$$ - more like "that sounds like an interesting job".

I disagree. Do you sit around and google "interesting jobs" all day, just for the heck of it? This would be a waste of their employers' time, if they did it for more than 2-3 interesting jobs. And many private school families are lawyers and lobbyists so, I don't want to insult anybody, but how many of these would you google unless it was to see how much they earn?

It's this simple - Google yourself (name, town), Google the email addresses on the app, Google your work email address. If nothing comes up -lucky you. If you publish some crazy blog......well - it depends on what they are looking for.....
