It is odd that you talk about individual freedom and the sanctity of every life" in the same breadth. Since our country has capital punishment, I can only assume that you are referring to abortion. So how exactly does abortion policy (either pro or con) translate into creativity, innovation and wealth? Unit that individual liberty is a key to success, but you can't tack on life issues and expect it to fly. |
While certain wealth Middle Easterners come to the US for health care (including fancy operations), there also is the reverse trend of Americans flocking to Canada for certain health care procedures or drugs or to other foreign countries. The idea that Obamacare is going to stop wealthy Middle Easterners from comming to the US for healthcare is dead wrong. The private health care market will remain in place. If you have no insurance and want to pay for an operation with your own money, Obamacare does nothing to stop you. |
to poster 11:14. Why don't I ever meet rational conservatives like you? The only ones I seem to encounter are the rabid tea party types. I could actually have a conversation with someone like you. If there were more of you maybe the parties wouldn't be so polarized. |
Should read "I get that individual...." Damn iphone spell correction. |
Since we have the capacity to incarcerate dangerous individuals there should be no capital punishment and there will eventually be no abortion (a moral weakness similar to slavery). Decency, sanctity of the individual, personal responsibility, frustration of centralized power is the best we can do. |
OK, then what about right to die? Pope says no, individual liberty says yes. Is it a personal decision? Will it one day be legal? |
Slavery for the woman who cannot have a safe abortion. Abortion is a privacy issue and the government should have no more say about that than the government should have a say in whom you marry. If you don't want an abortion, you don't have to have one but for the thousands of women who do want one, it should be safe. Keep your nose out of their decision. It is not the job of women who can bear children to be broodmares for those who cannot. |
I'm a liberal and I love this country. But I've lived in other places (the dreaded "Europe") and know that some of their ideas are good. We summarily dismiss them because of our "We're #1" attitude. One of my favorite quotes from MLK is "I criticize America because I love her. I want her to stand as a moral example to the world."
If we really are exceptional, then let's do better. Let's be better. I think that's where the left is coming from. Is there not room for improvement? |
Slavery for the woman and man who must pick cotton with white skin in the 100+ Degree Alabama sun until he dies since machinery does not exist yet. The job must be done for survival and a civilized society. In order to fell good we must pretend that blacks are 3/5 human and use them to work in the fields so that we may survive and live a meaningful life and when we get pregnant, we will gladly raise the child.... What an easy job compared to working the summer fields to our death. Dear God ...we promise to never consider a baby ninth womb to be 0/5 of a person or a "product of conception" or a "potential person" if you just allow us to have slavery until we can invent machines to do the deadly work that must be done. |
white people are the worst....use blacks to do the deadly, necessary work until machines are invented. Blame Jews and work them to death in concentration camps to aDvance their cause. kill babies in the womb to preserve a more pleasant lifestyle and avoid Inconvenience. |
False analogy. |
What are you drinking? We never needed cotton to survive. And you sound like someone who has never worked in a field. It's a tough life, but not the toughest life. Your crappy overwrought prose doesn't make much of a point if you don't know what you are talking about. |
We don't have to abort a baby to live either. Selfishness, it flavorrs, it colors and ruins so much. |
Yeah...we weren't mean to the slaves at all. As Pp said..work in the filed isn't the toughest life. Now aborting babies....thats kind of rough, I'm surevthey would have liked to live, even if they had to work the fileds. |
The polarization increased and was cemented in more recent years: Bush - Cheney dictatorship! |
