It’s not even that hot

You're one of those people who has never opened their windows in their house, aren't you?

No.

We're from northern Europe and would love for recess to stay outside in the winter, though! With enough layers, I feel it's doable, but apparently MCPS is concerned about some kids not having coats.

Haha same I grew up in a cold climate and I don't understand why there is no recess in winter, but today is too much for me!

?
I teach in an ES and we rarely stay inside.

That's really great but at our school kids don't go outside when it's below freezing. So last year the whole month of January their recess was indoors. This year a lot of indoor recess too.

The PP said, "no recess in winter", which was definitely an exaggeration, but even staying in any time it is below freezing seems odd. That's your administrators making that decision. Do they make you stay in when it is "too wet" too?

In 90 degree weather? You are correct then. Idiot.

Yep, they don’t go when it’s wet. we have long stretches of indoor recess after the winter break. Last year many kids spent that using their laptops. Which is particularly sad.

I’m sorry to hear that. In my 30+ years teaching for FCPS I’ve been fortunate to have never been told it’s too wet to go out or too cold, unless there is a wind chill advisory or warning. We even take kids out if there is a light drizzle or we stay out if it starts to rain a bit. The current admin makes a point in school emails to families that kids should dress warmly because students are going out when it is cold.

If school were out youd be complaining that your kids were too hot at camp.

Don't overthink it school has ended! Enjoy your summer! August 17 is 9 weeks from Monday.

Our school does field day in the fall (usually early October) and it's a great kick off to the year and the weather is usually good by then. I understand wanting to go out on a bang with a field day in the spring, but between rain and heat, it's iffy timing.
I never heard of a fall field day before. What do they do in the spring in lieu of a field day?

Probably but camp makes sense with this weather. They've been in school since 2 weeks left of August. This is close to a year round school year.

I am a guy, and in the summer we used to play football in August when it was 100+ degrees, I remember coach laughing at us if we wanted water. LOL
I grew up fine, and it sad that my kids are not going outside because its too hot. The other day he wanted to stay home and not go play outside when it was too hot. Kids are so weak now T

FCPS is about as incompetent as they come. This year is proof.

Yeah! Glad the kids are not going to be forced outside again. Looking at you, middle school recess.

But if a high school athlete passes out, that's fine right? Because the high school sports where athletes are still in states are good to go right now. Green days if they're happening too.

No, outdoor activities were cancelled, you are wrong.

Literally what do you do all summer. This is not even the worst of it by far. People need to learn to be a tiny bit uncomfortable at times. It’s good for your health.

Yeah, not when the school is responsible for your kids. Do you really blame school for not wanting sweaty heat stroked kids back in the classroom

Um, you think teachers can't figure out ways to keep kids from getting heat stroke? Like - fields not blacktop. Water breaks. Etc.

Clearly another post from someone who is not a teacher.
