Do you have a 10 year old? This is the year that many incoming 5th grade classes have a massive increase in red shirts because no one wanted to fawns their kids to kinder that year. (2020) |
Yes i have a 10yr old. He was in preschool in 2020. There are no more redshirts in his class than his siblings. |
Oh. Didn’t realize you were a child. Go do your homework. |
Guys, it’s almost halfway through 2026. Your COVID card is expired. Time to rip it up. |
It’s so weird. Until a few years ago, even the Little League World Series listed height and weight of every player at every at bat (at the time, they were 11-13 years old). For the few really visibly overweight kids, you could immediately tell that they’d shaved 30-40+ pounds off the number they posted. It was on ESPN, with the finals on national TV. Really bizarre that anyone ever thought that was a good idea. |
| Stop comparing kids. |
You're blind. Rising 5th grade is much larger than the other nearby grades, both at my kid's school and district wide in FCPS. I personally know a ton of summer 2015 birthday kids who redshirted. |
Yup. This was my initial thought too. I have 11 and 13 year old girls and they and their friends look no different than my nieces did 10-15 years ago or than my sister and I did 45+ years ago. |
DP but I agree that there are more redshirted kids in my rising 5th grader's class than there were in my rising 7th grader's class. A lot of people didn't want their kids to do virtual Kindergarten in the 21-22 school year, so they held them back a year. My summer b-day daughter has a lot of friends that are over a year older than her. |
That’s just gross |
Weird that people claim redshirting never happens or isn't allowed suddenly know tons of redshirters. My rising 5th graders class isn't larger than his siblings classes. And what does it matter because the cliff already happened and the cohorts are getting smaller each year anyway. |
This is only prevalent in places where the schools were closed for years. Many schools went back on time. |
