Another easy explanation is the "listed" height/weight are wrong too! Again, why would this be included though? |
Agree. Why? Did parents authorize this? |
plus one, super weird. My son is at the awkward chubby phrase, and it seems embarrassing. |
+1 - Teams always add at least an inch and ten pounds to make athletes sound bigger. |
Also some coaches specificially choose the biggest kids. |
Awful diets little exercise |

Ditto to self selection, plus I agree it is super weird and kind of creepy that they are shark by this information. My kid is a college baseball player so I know travel ball, and I don’t recall ever seeing height and weight announced or published.
My kid also played basketball and they announced height and weight all the time. I didn’t like it, but I do think it was a bit more relevant. There are tiny baseball players and huge baseball players - one of the beautiful things about the game is that there isn’t one required body shape. My son’s college team does now announce height and weight as players come on the field, but that is down to the student announcers and what they think sounds cool. |
| He sounds normal for height maybe a bit tall, but I'm finding it hard to believe that he's 85th% for weight. Lots of boys redshirt. year at that age can make a huge difference. |
| Because baseball kids are generally fat and out of shape? |
This is from our pediatrician file. It says the percentage next to the weight at every appointment. Maybe it appears higher than he looks because he’s technically tall. bmi is around 60 percentile. |
what?! since when? |
He’s 94 percentile for height. And one of the shortest |
| My almost 12 year old is only 80 lbs. so it’s not all kids! |
| OP’s kid plays travel baseball and hangs out with these boys and OP is surprised that they are large? What about at school pick up or coming off the bus or school events or anywhere else you see a larger variety of kids? Are all of those boys huge too, or just the boys in your particular club baseball group? |
In his elementary school he’s smaller but he’s one of the only kids with a summer birthday on time. This was that school year greatly impacted by covid and we are in a private school that almost everyone but us held back from February and March that year so he’s up to 15 months younger than many of the boys. Baseball is by age so we thought it might be better. |
