I took the metro to IAD. It was pleasant. Long, but stress free. I would take the metro if my flights leave after 8am.

Who does this and leaves their car for weeks or even one week? I wouldn’t. Parking at IAD is obnoxious. If you park in lots 1 or 2 it will cost you hundreds for less than a week.

There are substitutes that people can switch to, including private parking. Of course it's not a perfect market, but it's not a complete monopoly either. There is an upper limit at which point no one would pay the proposed price - only question is how much.

Looks like many hotel.options for 8-10 a day. That is what we will do.

Parking at IAD feels safer than leaving my car in a hotel parking lot. But maybe I'm deluding myself.

We check both every time. The cheapest option varies each time.
