That is literally the only school where this is not possible to offer (unless there are any they're not offering it at due to being too far overcapacity already.). Every single other boundary reassignment is to a school that is already open. |
Have any staff at any of these schools heard any intel about the impact yet? At some schools where there are large numbers of kids reassigned, this could potentially make the incoming class either much larger or much smaller than planned, depending on whether more incoming vs departing kids take up the offer. For example, both Sligo MS and SSIMS have only a couple elementary schools staying put, so they could either grow a lot if most incoming kids switch early and few departing kids leave, or shrink a lot if most departing kids leave and few incoming kids switch early. I am sure there are other schools in this situation as well. |
| This plan sounds like another one of these “two people in Central Office had a convo at the water cooler and decided to operationalize an idea that they didn’t think through at all.” |
| I don’t think this jumpstart is going to get a lot of takers unless their parents have the ability to get them to/from school everyday, or the MS/HS is a much better option than their current assignment. Are there any places where it solves a split articulation from ES to MS? Kids from Diamond ES could get a jump to QO, that would make sense especially for sports but then does it mess with capacity there if no one leaves? |
I bet it will get a lot of takers among rising 6th graders, particularly those who can walk to their new school, although it will probably also depend a lot on existing friend circles too (if most of their ES friends are switching early they probably will too, if they aren't then they won't.) There is a lot of anxiety among kids and parents that age about making the big transition from ES to MS and then having to switch to a whole new school a year later. |
| My son is at Forest Knolls and got the letter. Now we’re trying to figure out if his best friends are switching so he can switch too. Not having the bus is a bummer but Sligo middle is actually closer to us and only about an 8 minute drive, as oppose to SSIMS 🤷🏻♀️ |
I thought Forest Knolls kids are in the walk zone for Sligo and wouldn't get a bus anyway even in 2027? Or most of them, anyway. |
Some FKES kids can walk to Sligo, but most would have to cross University Blvd so they will eventually get a bus. |
