Yes, but they have money and some critical mass. It will be painful but they'll come out the other side. |
They had a large donation to start their new Nursing program and they have an increasing enrollment trend along with a great Environmental Science program which is a draw in the region for those looking for a smaller school experience. |
These colleges should be worried because I’ve never heard of half of them. |
You should be worried because you’re an idiot. |
I doubt they've heard of you, either. |
and yet a billion in reserve (1.5B). It's in the same 990 |

I dont think colleges are thinking creatively enough.
If I were a college, I'd reach out to 10 good high schools across the country and say, if get a crew of 5 kids with these stats (1400 sat, 3.4 GPA) to commit and we'll give you all full tuition (but not room and board) ride. If the college name was good *enough* like a Bennington or a Wooster, you might get kids from the bottom half of the class at TJ or Regis or Walter Payton to commit with friends. The colleges CDS looks better, they have a diverse geographic presence, and prepared kids. If the kids were smart, they'd say, let's do this together and then we can all pay for grad school, start a business, put down a down payment, whatever after graduation. |
Well, I've never heard of Albright, Keuka, Knox, Lycoming, and Wartburg either. And why would I? The reality is that small liberal arts colleges in rural areas and small towns in the Northeast and Midwest with tiny endowments are in serious trouble. All these colleges are going to have to get creative to remain viable. If I were president of one of these schools, I'd lean into useful things for the community - farming, small business management, teaching, animal husbandry, and so on. Ain't no one coming to Keuko or Wartburg to study Shakespeare or get recruited by Wall Street. |
Nope. Lycoming? Albright? Keuka? I do a lot of hiring and have never come across these schools. Would not be impressed. |
They definitely haven’t because I went to an Ivy. |
I would think schools like Mary Washington and Christopher Newport would see an increase in enrollment with other VA schools getting more competitive. |

Drexel's acceptance rate is going above 80%.
Its yield is in the single digits. |
| Occidental, University of Southern California, Georgetown and many of the lesser known schools mentioned earlier in the thread. |
